Staredit Network -> Miscellaneous -> Starcraft Movie Project
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathknight on 2004-04-17 at 11:22:05
After me and a friend had discussed it, we have decided to start on making a professional looking Starcraft Movie. We havn't thought up a title yet but we need a bit of help.

We need people that can do at least one of the following:

•Model
•Skin
•Create music pieces
•Organize a database of reference pictures(Use this to start with)
•Organize and get the complete Starcraft storyline(use this to start)

There has been no major breakthrough with this project, though it is only the start of it. If we get enough people, it's interest and popularity will increase, as well as motivation. We have already started a couple of models but we need more support. In the end, everyone who helped will be credited. It is a large goal to accomplish but it is not impossible. If you think it is impossible to do better than Blizzard's short cutscenes, you are mistaken. That's all I have for now in this post.

I have a microphone if you need some voices, such as the one I did for Yoshi's map.

The voice you did for the map is great! We probably won't need you for a while though, when we're done a few models and get an accurate storyline.

First things first:

- What program are you going to use for this? Maya? 3D Studio Max? Lightwave?

- How long will it be?

- What quality/size will the movie be?

I can do video editting, so you can render the scenes in clumps, and I can mesh them together. That includes text and all. I can also do some music/sound editting to into the movie. Not making them myself, but just adding sounds and music into it.

All that, and throw in my photoshop experience. That's all I can really provide.

Hi, im new here, but anyway im the director and editor of this film, first of all, im doing the shooting, directing, eidting, all the effects ect, and some modeling as well. I would normaly do all the modeling my self, theres just so many units, im using 3ds max, so the format would need to be a .max scene or a .3ds file, all you have to do is make the model, maby rig it not required though, and ill do the rest, music would also be very helpfull but unless you can create sounds or music your self, its not needed ill edit it all in.

The actual movie has not been started. Also we need a name for it. sick.gif

My retarded suggested name:
•Starcraft: The Unofficial Movie

Some background Jurgis did(I think):

OH COME ON! Something more interesting than that! MAybe a swirly star background with a flash of psionic energy behind it coupled with debris among the stars. Hmm...

And plus, nothing using the extrude command and then glow edges. I am sick of that command (mainly because one of my friends uses it all the time...and not always in a tasteful manner).

Okay, before ANYTHING starts, we need at least a general storyline. Hopefully, nothing cliched like the Xel'naga coming back or going off to kill Kerrigan. Something...new.

It's based, so far, on the orginal Starcraft storyline, like in the campaigns.

Yes, im trying to think of a good storyline, I think it would make more sense if we foucused on the terran and try to make them look like the ones cought in the middle of a big war, showing how they are just trying to defend themselfs, we could come up with some storyline based on that I guess

Oh yes, I forgot to add that I can make models. Not edit them, making them. Mostly actual vehicles though, via the use of CAD programs. My skills at CADing is quite good, and also, I know where to make real models out of CAD programs, so we can technically have an minature Wraith (though we'd have to paint it...).

However, the project you are asking will require lots of computing and man power. I can provide some help, though I do have other work to do as well. Depending on how long you want it, this could take YEARS to make.

lol, haha with CAD it may take a while. CAD is a techincal drawing program, with the program i have i can model about one unit really fast, the program im using was used in a lot of real movies like Xmen, Xmen 2 , Black hawk down ect.

Not if I use 3D CAD programs and then export it as a model (STEP or IGES usually does the trick). And I assume you're using Maya right? Since Maya is really well used in the special effects department for movies. And CAD take me really little time to do (especially when I'm just making one piece).

Not maya, i got something better, 3ds max biggrin.gif

Edit: Hey, well as long as you can get some quailty models done and get it in the right format, ill use them. I started a battlecruiser this morning, did the basic model so far no ms modifers or blevling or anything yet

Heh, in 3Ds Max, I can help even more. Actually, I'm pretty bad at modelling in 3Ds Max, but I do know a technique to make textures look as if it had some..."wear" to it. And let's see if I can dig out the shields technique I had lying around....Here it is:

I offer my skills in Adobe Premier. I can organize the clips, play them in a different order, compile them any whatever.

SEN can be a host for this as long as the video is a reasonable size tongue.gif

I dont mind temporary hosting of files, I just dont like having longterm useless files on here tongue.gif

I was more than happy to host Deathknights site, it seems to be making a lot of progress wink.gif

heh, Yoshi, you do realize that the movie should take at least 200 megs. What was the limit that your host set again?

Blade, why not get a new subdomain to put stuff instead of sticking it in Deathknight's space, so he won't complain that you accidentally did something to his account because your space and his space is already seperated.

Cool, all this support means a lot to me, normmaly im a one man job, doing everything and it can take a while somtimes, you dont have to link or anything to my file, all i ask is that you watch it happy.gif thanks for all this help so far guys, deathknight sure knew the right place to go wink.gif
nonono im not sticking it in deathknights space, i have my own domain server on the web
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Deathknight on 2004-04-17 at 13:52:24
That's what I was trying to tell you. People are here to gladly support you. I bet there are more... How about I make a little post in the Project Revolution forums? There are certainly modellers and skinners there... of course if you want to.

Oh yea... what about "If the topic was popular" or whatever...

I got 1 gig total of space, currently using 300 megs.

I plan on compressing the movie and lowering the size you know.

...and you need to find a Kerrigan. tongue.gif

Now we need a website... a good website with like a chatroom or something and have some totally up to date crap and um... yea.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SpaceBoy2000 on 2004-04-17 at 14:24:36
Look for groupboard, it's got a horrible message board interface, but it has chat and in addition, game with the chat and a whiteboard. Except that the free version has only a maximum of 5 people. A paid vesion for 19.99 a month is available for up to 100 people though. You can also pay to have one to host yourself, bu that costs more, and you have to talk to them personally. Oh well, I bet Yoshi can code some thing like that though.

Check it out at http://www.groupboard.com

They have a demoboard where it shows what you get.
