I dunno if any of you are space buffs but they are grounding the shuttles again after more foam fell off. Those NASA guys really need to to pull their heads out of their butts and develp a new shuttle/launch vehicle.
Bring on the flames.

Out dated? No just retarded, think about it all that space junk we sent up there is whats doing this so if u ask me, either clean up out atmosphere or get smart with reinforcing the hull.
The carelessness of people these days is what is causing it now, not many people really check that stuff 18 times, i would know, my dad works in that type of stuff. These NASA people should get their act together, and actually make some advancements in technology.
Find a better insulator than foam, its always the foam that causes the problems...
I thought they were devolping a new space vehicle, and then the budget got cut and they scrapped it...

NASA lacks the funds that it once had to explore space. This isn't the 60s! We are no longer in a D**k wagging contest with another world power. That's why we got as far as we did in space, its because of competition from the soviets. If someday we got into another war and space held a tactical advantage, I bet we'd be seeing Wraiths and Battlecruisers, etc. from NASA in no time!
Maybe they should try glue! Did NASA ever think of that!?
Screw you guys, we all know staples pwn all.
Don't use red font please. I have to highlight what you're typing to read it if you do.
I heard on discovery channel that they are planning to send one up to help the hubble (big telescope in space, for the mentally challanged). They were saying if they don't do something about it soon it'll be about a decade before they can get a new one up. There was also some talk about sending unmanned trips to space (something about Canada's Dexter, possibly the Canadarm too). They aren't sending them up again because they don't want people to die, it's surprising how little you care about human life.

They've been meaning to put the Hubble out of service for decades...
We should try to develop easy-to-take-off-and-land, missle-armed, plasma-shielded ships, alter the human genes so we get psionic powers, and call ourselves the Protoss. -.-

...and you heard this where?

Can't remember, but I do recall that they tried to get a new, more powerful telescope up there to replace it.
I'll just assume you're full of it then.
Its true about hubble, although I think decades is an exxageration. Basically, NASA cut the funding to send maintenance crews up to hubble, so sooner or later the parts of it which require routine maintenance will break, and its orbit will deteriorate.

That's because of the last disaster. NASA doesn't want more death.

That's where the unmanned trip comes in. They got a lot of good information from the Hubbles photos, if they let it go down it'll be about a decade before they can get a new one up there. People don't want to wait.
Found the stuff on Hubble's replacement,
the James Webb Space Telescope.
Stuff on that Hubble was supposed to be put out of service before:

It also authorizes a mission to service the Hubble Space Telescope, which NASA previously had decided to let fail as its gyroscope and batteries wear out.
SourceI might have remembered the timeframe wrong, so decades might be too much, sorry for the confusion.
I don't remember where i herd this but i think that the hubble was supposed to be left to rot a few years ago(i think) and they are supposed to be developing a new one but i havent seen anything about it. Ill just have to content myself with the sucess of Deep impact for a while.

Read the post right above yours (mine) ...
what they need to reinstate is that old explore policy they had when exploring the west. They just kept sending humans out. We adapted. I mean back then they didn't care if 1000 ppl died. Now 1 person dies and its all over the news and ppl are turning into pussies over them. Get as many humans out into space as possible. Eventually someone is going to find a new home.
