Staredit Network

Staredit Network -> SCMDraft -> Changes for next version
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SI on 2005-08-01 at 13:08:26
Now that the first few people have access to a newer version, I'll try to keep an updated list of changes fixes.

Bugs fixed:
Minimap now updates when undoing / redoing unit owner changes and unit movement.
Doodads occasionaly were being set as active without this being possible. (-> SCXE crash)
Removed read only checkbox when opening maps (wasn't supposed to be there)
Upgrade limit now properly set to 1 for upgrades with only 1 level.
Brush unit updates player color (Goliath and tank turrets weren't changing)
Sprite flags now can be unset
Some shortcuts weren't always registering, now all work.
08/06/2005: Was allowing maps with more than 64 locations to be saved as Vanilla maps, fixed.
08/06/2005: Bug causing dropdown of save dialog to not properly be filtered fixed
08/06/2005: Also fixed bug with SCM / SCX maps
08/06/2005: Crash when a map had doodads preplaced out of bounds. (Impossible to do with staredit and scmdraft, only present in some SC vanilla maps)

Features added:
Copy paste units (Now stores unit properties as well, adding nydus canal support atm)
08/09/2005: Copy / Cut / Paste doodads
08/14/2005: Copy / Cut / Paste sprites
08/14/2005: Ctrl click to select current terrain type (Also jumps to selected tile in tileset indexed mode)
08/18/2005: Display of areas where minerals / start locations are not allowed
08/18/2005: Mineral type randomizer
08/20/2005: Added second grid layer
08/20/2005: Finalized most of the code for the copy paste layer

Misc:
-profile=[name] option
08/06/2005: Asks for confirmation when adding location 64, as map is no longer vanilla compatible
08/09/2005: Pasting empty lists will not remove the current selection

hey, SI. I have an idea. Maybe make it so we can copy and paste terrain like starforge. I like that feature and it's annoying when I have to switch over from scmdraft to sf. Its just an idea though.

That is planned for this week, I started with units because they are the most difficult for copy and paste.

ADDITION:
Sneak preview, this has the copy / paste unit code and all bug fixes up to 07/08/2005. Mostly untested tho, report bugs here or in the bugs topic.

It freezes up if you try to past without anything selected to copy
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SI on 2005-08-08 at 13:05:57
I'm not getting a freeze then, what exactly are you doing?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Cole on 2005-08-08 at 14:10:15
SI, copy something outside of scmdraft 2(like some text), then paste it(make sure your under units).
What happens then is your mouse wont be able to make the "box" to select units and thinsg. It can be easily fixed by right clicking once.

ok, that may happen, thats not a freeze tho, thats it just letting you paste an empty list of units smile.gif

It actually froze on my computor untill I switched to fog of war layer then I switched back to unit layer and it worked again
(and yes I did try right clicking to check if it was tryin to past a empty unit)

You're not going to be able to do anything if it froze your computer. tongue.gif

I accidentally deleted the PM where you sent me the special sneak preview SI cry.gif .

Anyhoo, how are you going to incorporate terrain copying?

SI. Can you make it so when your moving the map with the arrow keys it doesnt move sluggish. I always use the arrow keys when I map and if I use this, it drags at first then it gets normal. This leads to another thing. Can you have a button in the menus where it lets you change the speed of the arrow keys. I think people that like to work with every detail of the map would like it to be slow, cause sometimes I'll be working on the terrain and it just slides like crazy which makes me mess up.

Thanks.

I havn't quite decided on terrain copying, I have 2 methods I am looking at, maybe I'll add then both and make it toggable or something.

I'm going to look at scrolling in general, for me it doesn't seem quite as smooth as staredit, may be me tho. (At least when using the minimap to scroll)

You need to add in compatibility for StarForge Brushes, that would be uber.

I think the two were compiled in seperate programming languages...therefore, the files might not be compatable. sad.gif
XML anyone? wink.gif

*ShadowBrood shudders.

XML is pure evil. It's invading everything. Hell, World of Warcraft uses XML for it's GUI..

When I was copying and pasting units it doesnt snap to the grid and I cant find a way to enable that, will that be in the final?

ADDITION:
Also, when pasting multiple units they all talk at the same time, you might wanna do something about that...or just tell everyone to turn their sound down.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SI on 2005-08-11 at 08:10:53
A: FOr the sounds, you can hit disable all sounds in the menu.

B: I'm working on a way to have the pasted units snap without losing their formation too badly, however most likely only buildings will snap and all other units will have their offset adjusted accordingly

I'm probably going to support loading SF brush files, however due to my brushes also having units / doodads / locations / etc the save format will be more complex and incompatible.

With the EUD triggers becoming big, I've had to stop being lazy and figure out the slightly more complicated triggering system of starforge. It's really not that bad. I know you've said in other threads that the trigger editing isn't your highest priority, but is there any way you might want to make it slightly more intuitive like the starforge system?

Doesn't have anything to do with a separate file format though...
