I'll stick to a joystick over a d-pad anyday. D-pads make my thumb sore after a while, while joysticks feel smooth the first time, every time. It feels much better and easier to move. Out of all the consoles, I'd say the cube has the best joystick because it's in the natural position (bad PS2), and it has an octagon border to show EXACTLY where each of the 8 directions is (beats xbox).

I guess joysticks are the new standard today, but I liked the games that used to use the old d-pad, makes me think about the classics. One is Super Mario Bros 1, 2, 3. smile.gif But games with joysticks are good too, I remember Ape Escape for playstation, it owned.

D-Pad is so fricking old school. Though, some requires NEED the joystick in order to be efficient. One example being Super Mario 64. Well, I still like the d-pad though, but the joystick is a good choice too.

Joystick. The XBOX controller has the most buttons, but the GCN controller has the best, an dmost comfortable, layout.

In your opinion, perhaps, but I like the XBox controller more myself- I have the four main buttons right there, without any goofy shapes, so all I have to remember is "top", "right", "left" and "bottom". It also has more core comfortable triggers. Though, the D-Warped-Phonograph-Record sucks.

I don't mind the PS2's joystick placement, and I don't really need the octagonal border- a round one allows me to rotate the stick in a smooth circle, and the stick itself is better, plus there's a stick-button.

As for whether D-Pad or Stick is better, it depends on the game, though stick is generally preferable.

Man, I really am old school, I prefer using a D-pad any day, although the way they have been placed on the gamecube/xbox controllers makes them rather hard to use, but on the PS2, you can have my D-pad when you rip it from my cold dead fingers.

Since I've played my SNES since I was 3, and that I didn't get an xbox till Xmas '03, I would have to say that a D-Pad is better for most games. However, in games like Halo, I could never win without 2 joysticks!

It all depends on the game. Most driving games I use the D-Pad but in newer RPG style games moving around I use the analog.

Im always joystick. I hate when I play ps1 games and I have to switch to the D-pad. It feels better and you're more under control.

By joystick, do you mean the ones on controllers, or like, Logitech Joysticks.

Either way joysticks. Easier to move with.

It's thumbstick, not Joystick or that's a different story (like computer Joystick, not controller). And D-Pad isn't for computer either. But I'd prefer both if D-Pad wasn't used on moving the charactor, because D-Pad are used something else.

Or a mouse. Your choice. Unfortunately, noone's figured out how to get a keyboard and mouse to plug into an XBox.

ADDITION:
Also, I prefer the D-pad.
