By cheap, I mean should someone get kicked out of a match for doing it because it can be considered cheating.

Personally, I hate it when people call camping cheap. Does it take a lot of skill? No, it's not hard to kill someone in an FPS when their back is turned. But, it is not cheap or unfair. The point of the game is to kill the other team, and that's what camping helps you do, so why is it cheap?

No such thing as a cheap strategy, unless it exploits a game glitch or hack.

I dunno 'bout everyone else, but I think it is. Sure the objective may be to kill the other guys, but doing that just takes the fun and the challenge away. If people were always doing that in..., Halo 2 for example, it wouldn't make it that much fun because everyone would be doing that just to get a few wins. Like rigged mass maps in Starcraft.

camping = you stay in one place = the enemy knows where you are

many noobs just call everything "CAMPER!"

It is not cheap. You will piss people off but if you camp they know where you are and can kill you there. If you can do it in the game and it does not include exploiting glitches then it is not cheap.

It makes the game very dull for the other players, but it is a perfectly valid tactic, especially in the 'realistic' FPS games such as America's Army.

Yeah, in all the realistic games war is fair. I don't think camping is bad, I don't see how you could win so easily that way, but I do know that spawn-camping is really cheap. That's also why most shooters have random spawn points.

Very true, although in most games where you can spawn camp you don't need a hack to do it, it clearly was not intended or is just bad programming. Camping is a real life strategy that is used. Waiting at your enemy's spawn point is not.

In games like Battle Field 1942, where you have uncapturable spawn points and the enemy teams can't do anything else, then sure, it's fine. It's not like your gunna stand around elsewhere and wait for them to come to you and give them a chance anyway.

In games like Halo, where you can spawn anywhere, it's fine since you can spawn next to anyone. It's random, so if you get spawn killed, it's not necassarily camping.

In other games where there's way out spawn points and nothing to stop campers, Day of Defeat, for instance, It's not the best thing to do, but I think it's still acceptable.

So no, it's not cheap.

It's only annoying when it makes the rest of the people wait longer such as CS.

If you camp a common enemy spawn, then sure its a bit cheap but sooner or later more than one will spawn and own you. BOOM HEADSHOT!

Camping however is often mistaken for sittin around an enemies Flag, Spawn, Objective Area but its really when you pick a spot, and sit there for a long time attackin any enemy who comes near. Sooner or later the enemy will learn that you will not give up your position and find oother ways to their objective so Camping varies between cheapness depending on the situation.

Hehe I love to sit at the back of my base on Unreal Tournaments "Face" map with a loaded Redeemer, not really campin cause no one finds me often enough but I always dish out the thermonuclear rockets with pure ownage! So tell me is that situation cheap or not?

camping at top with a sniper rifle is better smile.gif

Oh you play UT aswell ay well heres a tip, I play with other people on their server so that trick wont be very effective, trust me lol. They'll snipe you the second they got a chance lol.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Lisk on 2005-08-04 at 18:35:26
shouldnt they snipe your redeemer rocket aswell then?..
you can snipe pretty well at the top happy.gif

Not if your evasive, beside most people on there dont know that Redeemers can be sniped. lol

It's not cheap, because you have the same option available to you as well. He's not doing anything unfair. I would just camp too and not me just out of spite so and just sit there while the other guy sits there too.

I voted Yes, because when I first saw this I thought camping as in respawn camping tongue.gif Then that's cheap.

I doesnt play Counter Strike, I play Camper Strike... And if I do something else... Well, mostly it ends in some kind of suicide...
but camping in Halo? Näh, close combat with fast reflexes. None of my friends like to encounter me if I got a shotgun smile.gif

Camping is cheap. Its not strategy its cheap. Camp in 1 spot and wait for people to move right in your crosshairs.
I hate it when people do that to me!

Most people kick me out of the game because im using a sniper rifle and they accuse me of camping... HELLO Im sitting on a HILL shooting people at long distances... That is sniping not camping...

Camping is when you are in a room with 1 door... You take out a rocketlauncher and sit in a corner and stare at the door... That is my definition of camping
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Felagund on 2005-08-12 at 12:24:13
Sniping is covert Odd. You should at least be hidden in some bushes or something.

What you speak of is sharpshooting.

And I agree, camping is more for enclosed spaces, like city terrain and whatnot. Noob campers always camp the same spot. Good camping techniques include taking out an enemy or two and then moving to another spot. It cuts down on the number of times they're able to sneak up on you and kill you as you camp.

There's this funny mod in Call of Duty where if you camp for like two minutes, then you burst into flames.

Yea, it's pretty gay for two reasons:

1. If your opponent comes for you, you have a tremendous advantage.
2. If your opponent doesn't come for you, the game will never end.

Hahaha... I camp maybe once in a while, when I'm eating or something and I only have one free hand.. I set at the top of a tower and just shoot flak grenades down..
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Felagund on 2005-08-12 at 14:08:56
Sitting on a shelf watching a single door is gay. Sitting up on the third story of a building to snipe players running in the streets below is a good tactic.

According to your own words ihatett, the only game you play is StarCraft. So you don't know what the Hell you're talking about. Thanks.

Last time I checked, he did know what the hell he was talking about. Thanks.

If you are camping because you obviously know enemies are coming, and you wait a short while I think it's ok, but I hate those people who wait in a spot no one will look in for like 40 minutes and never shoot anyone.
