also having those long stretches of terrain in a straight line looks ugly to me yawn.gif

How is the ramp "retarded"? I'd appreciate it if you analyzed and rated my map as many others have done for you.

They don't disqual for people who post in forums to get feedback. It is only disqual if you send a well know map, one used in a leauge, in map contest, etc. This was confirmed at TL.net.

That might be, but by posting a med-res image of your map, some people will have an unfair advantage over others, as some has the chance to see and analyze the map, whereas the majority did not.

Removing the map screenshot would be the morally correct thing to do.

UED, the maps will be released way before the contest. Everyone will get a chance to analyze my map( assume it makes finals and top 5 also).

Well, okay, then. I just don't want to see any mapmaker disqualified, or any player having an unfair advantage.

Nice map, by the way, although those vertical borders on mid-left and mid-right are a bit unnatural, to say the least.

okay take a look at the bottom ramp.

now look at the top ramp.

the top ramp does not restrict troop flow at all, whereas the bottom ramp is cramped in that little choke.

think about in game when a protoss wants to rush, how are they going to build gates by the ramp? how are terrans and protoss going to put cannon/bunker on cliff?

now look at where the ramp on the bottom is. its right next to a cliff. why does this matter? because a terran can easily bring some siege tanks on to that cliff, and get free shots on passing by troops. look at the top location. you cant do that to them if they build their production near the left side.

take a look back at top position. theres a little outcropping over by their expo. again, terrans can easily take that area and take free shots at your expo. you cant do that to bottom location.

look at the little alclove near the right island. you can put a siege tank in there, and prevent units from coming in by walling it off, and the choke is realy small on it. there is no such thing for the right island.

look at bottom locations natural. the cliff wall has a break in it. sure, units may not be able to pass through, but it allows vision through it. top location has no such break.

the amount of easily harassable expansions seems much. you should try making a few of them a little safer to take, because protoss dont have any reciprocal to tanks or lurkers.

the gas on the left island is less susceptible to harass, because its outside ground counterpart is part of the mineral blocked territory, whereas the right islands is not.

theres a kangaroo in the middle also.

[edit] and its really nice when people show the maps they are going to submit before the contest. the map making community should be working together and helping each other rather than being secretive and hiding their entries. that and then we wont get blindsighted by some super spectacular map that somebody made and didnt tell anyone about.

No he didn't. I can see it. Hey pekkel, I hope your map makes it to BlizzCon! I wanted to go, but I saw the ticket price and I was like hell no, not even for SC:G LAN.

8/10 for balance.

5/10 for all the :censored:ing symmetry.

The top one is the one that matters though.

Symmetry... You kidding? He did a great job hiding it. Try making one with less symmetry this balanced ShadowBrood.

I dislike the blandness of the top right main.

Pekkel nice map, much better than the ones you used to post. 300% improvement.
Good Luck. Since people seem to favor other tilesets more (i.e. Twilight, space, jungle) you may have that on your side when they are deciding.

Blizzard doesnt like straight lines in maps. Maybe you could change that little choke on either side a bit.

Chicken is right, maybe you should add another layer of that thin wall. Or make it more accesible to get there when underseige.

Fixed the tanking/e-bay thing you mentioned, decaf. Also moved some ramps a bit and decorated the top terrain. Tried to fix the straight like thing, too, but not too sure where you meant there were straight lines, Yenku. Maybe I already fixed it in this ver.

Oh i was looking at the first pic when i wrote that. I was referring to the tiny chokes that go behind the walled off expos.

When I was playing at 6 the minerals pissed me off because I could only see the tops of a few of them. Always avoid putting minerals below the CC, it just pisses players off because their workers get stuck. Also, I think now that you've surronded that natural with the walls mutalisks will be really deadly, as you can't see them and they get free shots... maybe make a vision crack in the inner wall, I dunno. I didn't do it that game because I didn't feel like making a tech switch (I wasn't playing very well anyway, I need practice). As I suspected, I had forgotten where the expos were (the middle ones anyway), but that's just me =(

It'd make me happy if you made both players mineral lines vertical; I don't think it would even hurt your map. It did look pretty good though =D
