As a user of Staredit Network, I can attest to the glee of our 3000+ member community when Deathknight discovered EUD triggers (Extended Unit Death triggers.) These triggers are means of modifiing the game in UMS maps, which the great majority of us produce. (addtitional inforemation can be found
here.)
These triggers breathe new life into our community, and are probably the best thing to happen to UMS, with one harmful side effect: They will crash a mac user. However, we considered that this was something that careful mappers could counter by labeling their maps. And the benefits are to be considered, these triggers give extreme levels of control to mappers, allowing us to create completely new styles of gameplay, with added visual appeal and strategic depth. EUD has opened up a new world, a dark and unexplored chasm of strange and wonderful things, and this far outweighs the losses, considering a small portion of the SC community uses macs. Also, many mac users to not crash, but rather disconnect, which is much less inconvienient. Also, it has been confirmed that this method cannot transmit viruses or other malware.
Yet you, Blizzard, supposedly are going to end much of this merriment by patching (and thus reducing the hard labor of DiscipleofAdun and Deathknight to naught) these triggers, solely on the insufficient ground that they crash macintosh users. This is not a good reason, because these triggers require advanced skill that not everyone here posses, and the battle.net community, and mappers, will be sure to label maps or games as "PC Only". Also, even when patched, the hacking community will rebound, as it is known by the starcraft community to do with almost fearsome speed and effeciency. Patching these triggers will not reduce the overall amount of mac crashes, as they will take quite a long time to take root.
Mappers here at Staredit Network believe that patching these triggers is either some sort of sinister prelude to greater evils, or a misguided ignorance of the SC mapping community. These triggers allow us to do things that WC3 mappers can do, and some feel that is the reason for patching these.
We feel, also, that Blizzard in general has abandoned the gigantic fan base of SC, left in the dust of Warcraft 3. Consider the age of SC vs. that of Warcraft, and you will understand how ridicoulous it is that Warcraft 3 has been patched 18 times when compared to SC's thirteen.
In closing we would like to say that we hope you will allow the Starcraft mapping community this one gift that is EUD.
