Daemon Tools is a program that basically 'emulates' a cd drive on your computer. Just rip the BW cd into an iso, bin, whatever to your hard drive and create an emulated CD drive to run off that image. Then when SC tries to load up it will check all drives for a cd, find the emulated one, and run faster than you've ever seen.
I use this, so if you need any help just ask.

I use a virtual cd drive as well. I downloaded the program called Microsoft VcdControlTool.
On my dad's computer though, the one I'm using now, I got SC to run with just a BW.iso, and a few SC files such as the dats and such. Didn't really install SC either

Hmm how complicated is all that to do? I'm not looking at a lot of work here, I'm really only asking for a friend who likes SC but always lets friends borrow his CD. I'm not really worried about the legal thing, I own 3 orignal copies of StarCraft, I think I've given blizzard enough..

EDIT: Okay so I have it installed, but I'm not sure how to copy, I've read the help and manual and all I've gathered is I need something around the lines of "1:1 Copy" which I have no clue how to get. Any help?

you can also copy install.exe to your starcraft directory and change the registry for the cd location

That doesn't work on my computer, Lisk. I have tried it.
After you install the program and restart your computer (one of the rare occaisions you actually NEED to do this) you should download a program which allows you to rip the CD into an image file. Something like CloneCD or Nero (CloneCD is very good at this). Then you find the option to make an image file, put in the cd, run it, and when it's done making the image file you go into daemon tools virtual cd > set number of devices > 1 then > Device 0: > mount image and find the place you saved your image. After loading the image it will instantly appear as a new cd drive on your computer and I'm almost 99% positive you can instantly play Starcraft from that drive (if not you might want to try another restart).

U culd xplor the CD and just go to StarCraft Exectuable OR Go to the shortcut and dbl click it. Bad thing is u cant save and it might mess up alot.

I think this should work. Copy and paste the Install.exe file from your Brood-War CD into your installed SC folder, and put the handy dandy file in the enclosed .zip folder on your computer (mine works just fine on my desktop). Voila! It runs without the CD. However, I only found the file directly needed to run Brood-War. I could not locate the original .zip folder that I downloaded. I hope this works. Yoshi uses this method as well. It's not bad as you actually still have to purchase the game.

Uh ... sorry no. First of all, he already had his problem solved. Second of all, hacks are not allowed which is what that is. And you can find the install.exe in tons of places. Of course I'm never going to say where.

I downloaded a program called UltraIso to create an image of my broodwar.
Before that I also used a program called Alcohol 120% which creates an image and makes a virtual drive for you, it was a trial program but it never expired I think.

did u know SC Uses the Image to confirm if its BW or SC? i used nero image drive and locked the BW image into it and i dont need to cd

well my broodwar cd was kinda broken, because it always crashed at 98% burn process.
So I downloaded the iso instead

Grr, the Daemon thing not working on my computer. You double click it, it just has pointer with hourglass, then pointer only. NOthing happens...
