Wasn't quite sure where to post this threat, but I wonder if someone could make this, would be a very handy tool. Something that requires no CD and just runs SC replays like a video kind of thing.

I agree, that would be a great program
QUOTE
Wesmic said that there was once a program that uncorrupts replays to make them playable in a new patch, yet it was never recreated for the patch following it. Someone should recreate or make a program that does it, it would be easier to use than bwchart and installing an old patch

A program such as this would solve many problems Melee'ers have with Blizzard patching so much.

What wesmic said actually was a progarm that "fixes" the corrupt replay to be able to play with a new patch.

Though a suggestion like your's would also be good, like a program like SC that runs a replay you watch, but not the actual game.

That would still require most of the files from StarCraft and install.exe to run. It would be easier to run a crack, but if you could make something that used only the files that replays would use, it would be very neat, but you'd still need StarCraft installed which detracts from the point of such a program.

Replays are hardly like a video. Replays would require a copy of the entire Starcraft game engine to run properly. A replay is just a recording of actions with a map and a few names attached. You need the game engine to emulate the actions and reuse the triggers. It can't just be some "simple thing" that can be whipped out in a year or two. You'd need all the files required for unit stats and everything. When you order a unit to attack move from point A to point B, whatever units in the middle will be attacked, but the replay does not record those units being attacked, they're just attacked automatically as part of the game engine, and other thing like that would have to be done. It would just be best to use Starcraft to view the replays.

Bwchart kinda does this - it shows you where all clicks are on the map as the replay progresses.

EDIT: And buildings.

An idea I was suggesting is create a program that uncorrupts replays so you can view them in a new patch, instead of creating a whole new replay viewer, would that be possible?

most likely..

i would like to see a flash replay player, but like Deathknight said, takes a long time and all the files..

it would be funny, by the time you finish making the bloody program, it would be 8 patches later and you'd have to go through it again.
