Staredit Network -> Games -> awesome new game idea
Report, edit, etc...Posted by l)ark_13 on 2005-08-10 at 02:05:22
Okay, this is gonna sound so nerdy, but w/e.
I had this dream where is was this marine in SC, but I was actually in first person and blasting away the zerg. IT WAS AWESOME!!
so then, I had an idea (when I woke up). What if someone made a real time strategy game, BUT:
you could click on a unit, press a button, and then BECOME that unit and be in like a first person shooter!!???!!!?? scared.gif cool.gif
This would work excellent in starcraft becaue you could be blasting away aliens. And, you could make AWESOME rpg's with starcraft because of this.

Feedback? Ideas?

That would require 2 different engines running at the same time. You wanna get the resources for that?

Actualy, there's already an RTS/FPS game.
In fact, there's atleast two that I know of.
Can't recall their names at the moment though, sadly.

How so? Just have it run the same engine, but in FPS mode, you become one of the players, there's 1 less 'bot', and you no longer have the eagle-camera-view.

I didn't say it would be easy, or if it could be done, im just saying it would be sweet.

I know that it would actualy in fact be possible to play an RTS game, albeit one where you don't have much control over the units, in UT2k4, without much muting.
And it is, for sure, possibly, because as I said, they exist.

There's one called Battlezone... battle something... or zone something... I saw it on G4TV in Buried Treasure...

RTS+FPS and it is influenced heavily by Starcraft. The learning curve is quite high, but there is no other game quite like it... and did I mention it is free?

My brother knows of two RTS/FPS games, one is BattleZone(you were right Neiji), and 'Machines'.
I remember watching him play a demo, it was cool.

Too bad Battlezone is really old, but it's really cheap at EB Games...

Several new games are also going to be FPS/RTS, although I can't recall their names at the moment. Battlezone owned, apart from the fact that there was no RTS style map view, all first person. I cant run machines any more, won't work in xp cry.gif

Just to tell you, everyone who uses the internet for personal uses is a nerd in one way or another. You may be leet, but you're still a geek.

Yeah I mean Yoshi plays HALO and has a name refering to a nintendo character only used in Mario Party, how nerdy is THAT.

Anyway I remeber a game called Lego Miners which did something like that. You would have lego dudes and mine rocks and stuff to find certain things, at time a rock or ice monster would attack and your guys would have laser beams to shoot at him. But you could click on any guy you wanted and make him mine or shoot in FPS view, it was kind of cool.

Savage: Battle for Newerth (or something) is an FPS/RTS.

Basically, it works with one person as the team commander, and they deal with the building, static defence, upgrading and distribution of powerups. All other players on a team are either officers or warriors, and they do the fighting with the equipment which the commander provides.

Teamwork is really necessary in Savage... =/

You're posting in an online forum at this very moment. Heck, even reading what I'm typing makes you some kind of a geek.

Such processes might be possible with 64-bit computing.

Maybe in a few years if they develop much faster cpu's, better types of RAM, and faster hard drives (to load up huge map files, like 30,000 rpm or a different type of hard drive that just reads info faster).

Have teams where there are officers that manage the bases and whatnot and warriors that fight the battles, and an option to quickly switch between the two.

Thats why I have intellegent friends instead of gangster friends. The fact that we all play starcraft makes us all the same.

You can flame, POST IN CAPITAL LETTERS and sound like you're not a geek, but you know truth, you're a geek. Even if its a little bit.

UPDATE: Continued it over here

WTF? why is there a yoshi next to your typing name, yoshi!?!? I never seen that there before. scary..

And anyway, if this game is new-time, you would need a really.. really upgraded computer..

Actualy, that's a game idea my brother and I thought-up a long time ago. Okay, only about five years, but when you're my age that seems like a long time... it is more than a third of my entire lifetime.
Anyways... umm... well, I forget about 99% of the detail, so bleh to that.

Like I've said, there's already a game out just like the one you're all creaming yourselves over, and it's fairly modern.

Savage

It claims that the RTS side is in-depth, but any SC players will find it laughably easy. It's annoying when you have a team that sucks ass and doesn't do what you tell them to, and it's just as bad when you have an incompetent commander, because you'll be facing enemies with much better weapons than you.

The only FPS/RTS that I ever liked was BattleZone (PC, 1997).
