Staredit Network -> Portal News -> Enable EUDs Again!
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Heimdal on 2005-08-14 at 14:57:00
I wrote a program to overwrite code in SC's memory that will enable the effects of EUD triggers again.

Downsides:
People may be able to run malicious code on your computer if you have this running
If you have it active and you play a game with EUD triggers with people who don't have it active, you will see each other drop

Upsides:
You can turn it on and off while SC is running

How to use:
Run broodwar (vanilla starcraft support is yet to come).
Run EUDEnabler
Type 'e' to turn on the memory patch
Type 'd' to turn off the memory patch
Type 'q' to quit

Command line (for use with bots, etc):
Turn on patch: EUDEnabler.exe e
Turn off patch: EUDEnabler.exe d

Chu: You can download the file at sen: http://www.staredit.net/index.php?download=3864

Warning added by Yoshi da Sniper: You use this program at your own risk. This program is intended purely for fun, and does not add any unfair advantages like Hacks do.

Another Notice by Yoshi da Sniper: Out of respect for people who do not have this, you should include a warning at the force slots, and the first text you see in the breifing, warning them that they will drop if they do not have this 3rd party progarm. I've made a nice subdomain for it to include in your maps: http://eud.staredit.net

How to detect the presence of EUDEnabler with triggers

So we can use this on b.net but the other users have to have it on also?

*First post* hahaha.

Yes, it's just like a mod like that. But it's unlike a mod in that you can turn it on or off without closing SC.

I suppose this would work like an automodder... *thoughtful*

Heim, would it be possible to write a program that would load data from the map MPQ and write it over the memory?

Well, this is very good news in did! Glad to see that can be accessed again...

This is awesome!!!! Although many, many people on Battle.net won't have this turned on, mapmakers can once again continue with maps and put a note in their maps like "You need EUDEnabler to play this map". Then, users who want to play that map could just run EUDEnabler. Well...ok so it would be 100% effective for single-player RPG's.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Heimdal on 2005-08-14 at 16:16:58
UED: Possible? Yes. It would be much more difficult than this project, however. Here, I had the advantage that I could compare the assembly code between 1.13 and 1.13b and see where it was changed. I wouldn't know where to begin writing an automodder.

greenreaper: In single player you could just keep a copy of the 1.13 exe around...
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Fronter on 2005-08-14 at 16:18:03
Well if they want to play the map, yes they will have to have it turned on, that is the major downside. But, if you will be like me, you will have it active.

Good job Heimdal. I'm pretty sure this only drops you from players that don't have it where EUD actions are present.

Then again, this is still much more convenient than running the same mod. I expect quite a few people will keep this program handy for EUD maps, it's much easier to enable/disable this than to keep restarting SC with a different SEMPQ each time.

Yes, it is more convient then running a mod, I agree, that is why it should be kept alive.

You can't patch it out, I don't think. It sort of reverts your sc after you connect to battle.net, I think.

You people are so smart it sickens me...

In other words, good job... (Not like i can use them, but eh...)

Wow this is great news! Nice job, Heimdal!
This is great day for those who wanted to boycott Blizzard because of the patch. Although they were being rather childish (no offense), it doesn't matter anymore. Good stuff, this is Heimdal, good stuff.

Please don't hate me for this, but I seriously think this will highly piss off blizzard if they find out about this, lol. It is a hack, but I guess it isn't too bad..

I do however, have a series of questions. I apologize if these questions were already answered.

When making a map that ueses EUDs, would you simply make them as we did before?

And this program, you turn it on and off WHILE playing brood War. But how would one be able to do that? Is the actual program that allows in game switching always on while Brood War is on, or would one have to start it up every time Brood War starts?

And if you played a EUD map with player who doesn't have it on, it drops who? BOTH you and the player who does not have it on, or just the person who doesn't have this on? This was not exactly made clear, even with Deathknight's reply.

Once again, I apologize for what may be a stupid question. It's for a more simple and clear cut clarification. This shoudl also help you people who have no idea what is going on.

I hadn't tested this, and you're absolutely right.

Yes.

You have to run it at the same time as broodwar, and type 'e' to enable and 'd' to disable the triggers.

A drop will only occur if the map actually has EUD triggers, as DK says. I'm not sure exactly who drops, or if the group of people split in two.

Yeah they probably will, but at least we can have EUDs again, even if Blizzard decides to axe the accounts of everyone involved in our little unrainable parade.

And what about MAC players? Would this option be a complete redundancy or useless option to them? Would they crash at every EUD map they tried to play again?

ADDITION:
Thanks for the information, Heimdal.

More then likely, yes it will still crash MAC computers.

But it is good to see that EUD's are back online, there is so much to do with them...

I think this was a bad idea. Blizzard released a patch to fix this for a reason. I don't think bringing it back by this type of action will be met with a nice blizzard attitude. sad.gif

Ah I had a feeling someone would do something like this.
