There is no best mapping editor, its whatever u like. For me i use SCMDraft for terrain, sometimes Starforge, and use SCXE for triggers (if ure too lazy to write strings like me)

I use starforge for most everything (Except creating units with properties, which is weird, I input it the same and it doesnt work =\ )

SCXE is also very useful.

I prefer SCXE, personally. I use the others occasionally, though.

I played around with starforge and xtra editor.

I didn't like how you had to hop from program to program with xtra.

Starforge sometimes froze on my computer... luckily I will be getting one that dosen't suck soon.

the new scm draft is pretty good for terrain

Normal StarEdit for melee maps, and SCXE for UMS maps. I only use SCMdraft or SF when i need to do square terrain or use p9+ players or whatever funky junk.

Try editors with PICK after their names in the DLDB.

Your brain is the most powerful mapping tool. Programs just help you carry it out.

Um... You don't need to hop from program to program in Xtra....

StarForge is good, and so is SCMDraft... But I stick with Xtra, or even normal StarEdit

Music usually makes the map gay... Enless you find some exelent music that goes with your game...

Technically, SCMDraft is the best. But I hate to admit it. smile.gif

ok...here it is...

For terrain: use Starforge...very nice options for 1x1 terrain and its good

Everything else: use Xtra Editor... alot easier to use than starforge and is modeled after the original Starcraft Campaign Editor which makes it easier to remember...btw starforge has a bunch of weird crap (like HALO missle trails...wtf? confused.gif )
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Staredit.Net Essence on 2005-09-08 at 13:19:57
Um... Why not just go ahead and do everything in StarEdit? Hmm?

And if you want more then 3 upgrades, open and save in SCXE! That simple!

Edit: HALO missle trails, are the smoke left behind by Goliath Missles.

I use SCMDraft for square terrain, unit placement, etc. Pretty Much everything except triggers. I hate writing up triggers

I use X-tra Editor For Triggers. I personally think extra is best for Triggers. But thats just my opinion

Edit: Accidently wrote Onion Instead of Opinion
