Well, theres this kid at my school who's sort of a "school buddy", like I talk with him a lot at school, problem being he is amazingly sheltered, INCREDIBLY sheltered, his mother won't even allow him to play 't' rated games without her explicit approval, he is also barred from watching all r rated movies. He's my friend, but having him over is always incredibly awkward, seeing as theres practically nothing we can do but talk. Anyone have any advice on how to deal with sheltered children? Basically, are they salvagable, or are they gone for good from the real world? (Here is an example of his mother's attitude, this fits her almost percisly http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:KTXC3...3c.html+&hl=en)

I don't get the point of sheltering anyone from anything, you're just denying them the truth.

Yeah, but that doesn't help with dealing with people who ARE sheltered...

Use Jedi mind tricks on his mom and slowly convince her to not shelter him anymore

Why don't you go for a walk, or go out to eat or something instead of doing stuff he can't do? I mean, its worked with the sheltered people I know.

Why not show him the truth? Play Teen rated games and all the such.
If he is really your friend, he wouldn't tell on you. And there is absolutelly nothing the parents can do to you if they find out.
Let them press charges, it will be dropped in court because it's a waist of the courts money for such a stupid case.
And the worst they could do is deny him to go to your house. If they take him out of school, and don't home teach him, that is illegal.

Your friend is young. In time, he'll grow restless and his parents' plan of shelter will backfire. Then he'll be more fun to hang with. He won't appreciate his parents for the sheltering until he's much older.
I've seen it happen that way several times.

then he'll start dealing drunks and making malakov coctails

People need to be exposed to the real world. If you keep them in the dark about it, how is it ever going to change? If you don't like the state of the world, maybe you should try changing it. The only to do that is to know the truth, then do something about it.

All games lead to violence in some way...my friends were playing halo, a team downstairs a team upstairs, and someone from the team downstairs ran upstairs, kicked a kid, unplugged his controller and ran away.
Its inescapable.
