I'll explain later, why you have to answer before 5pm. My parents are going to shop tonight for a new comp and I need as much replies as possible.

Which is better of the 2 poll choices? I don't want to do anything big on my new comp; it just need a decent video card to run games and anything else a "normal" computer can do (for any family comp...)

The Pentium is like 200$ more than the AMD; but I could hardly meet anyone who can actually give me a reason why it's so much more costly. Anyone knows enough to say which is the best of the two? (for the needs I do; which is nothing much)

Please reply (not the kind of "lol!!1 I dont knowz!" answers...)

well for pentium or amd i dont really know, i got a pentium 4 3ghz and its working good, for graphics i have an ati radeon 9800pro 128mb and its also great.

i dont know facts about how they are performing so all i can say is that my computer works great.

if you want to play games a nice soundcard is also good.. biggrin.gif

anyway nice for you to get a new computer biggrin.gif

It depends

AMD = Faster but you have to customize it to get everything you can out of it
Intel = Newbie friendly, faster than an unmodified AMD, but slower than a hyper AMD.

well if it isnt to late(i have no idea bout your time..), if the computer dosnt have to be a power package you should just go with whats cheapest and dosnt totally suck :biggrin.gif

From the little i know AMD is faster cause Intel lies about there processing speead (improperly rounds it or whatever) Anyways AMD processers are cheaper for the money. You pay less money for the name. (you can always steal intel inside sticker)

Well here is what you get.

$178 - Athlon XP 3200

$409 - Pentium 4 3.4GHz 800MHz
$851 - Pentium 4 3.2GHz 800MHz 2MB Extreme
$270 - Pentium 4 3.2GHz 800MHz

Looks too me like you are getting jewed....

$170 - Pentium 4 2.8GHz Prescott

2.8 = 2800 < 3200

Say you want to buy Pentium 4 2.8GHz 800MHz CPU. Cost: $164

And lets get the equivelant for performance: Athlon XP 2200 Cost: $75

Wow... I hope you can see what i am saying here.

Just a side note: Computers are REALLY expensive right now, and DONT buy an Athlon XP. They are going to discontinue that line soon and make them all Athlon 64 FX. So wait untill you can buy a cheap Athlon 64 FX then upgrade it on that line, so you dont have to buy a whole new computer, just a motherboard.

Yeah, wait a bit, there are some amazing things about to be released, or improved on, and old ones will lose their support!

Actually we're trying to get a new one as soon as possible... Cuz I'm not writting this from home. The mother card crashed and we're trying to get something going as fast as we can... So now I'm kinda confused with the replies.

I'll see tomorrow at school...

Well on the ones that I've used, the AMD just seem to run more smoothly etc.

The Pentiums seem to slow down over time. And thats bad. mellow.gif

Oh well.

It's officially gonna take more than 2 weeks now for anything new... Guess Mike's gonna have to handle the DLDB for a couple of days...

Story-time:

My computer have about 3 years old; going on 4 soon. The initial problem was that something was "buzzing" in he comp and it was pretty damn annoying. We tried to fix it a first time; thinking it might just be the hard drive or something similar, or the fans. Wasn't it. It stayed there.

About a week later; it really annoyed my dad and he decided he would explore more deeply to see what was the problem. We found out the video card had a tiny fan hidden under; so, knowing my dad, he removed the card and unplugged the fan, then tested.

Nothing. Wouldn't start anymore.

Took 2 days to know what was the problem (after visiting some comp shops thingies) and it seems the mother board/card was completly fried: Reason: It's old... That's about it. My dad messing with the comp supposely didn't help at all and it triggered the shutdown.

Now we're around the reason why I'm asking about computer help. Either we buy a Pentium, since it's "newbie friendly" or a AMD Atlon; which, by most of you guys's oppinion, I should wait at since prices will go down.

Either I won't be here for another week or it will take several, IF we are waiting for new things to go out.

I'll update next Monday... Can't access the computer other than at school...

Paly's out!

Well, your best option is just to give it some time, and be without a computer for a small period, and then get a really expensive, but state of the art one to last you a while

My computer is 5 years old, is in fine for me!

I don't know really. I like whichever on you can play starcraft one. In fact I like almost any comp that can play StarCraft.

I just noticed D2 had the "Intel" requirement... Doesn't say you can play it with Atlon... But NHL2k3 says you can...

I didn't check the other Blizzard games though...

Watch out! They work for Intel! They are trying to turn you away from the cheap and better Athlons!

Seems like everyone around are telling me to take an Atlon and my dad's been making a lil poll on his side too and everyone are telling him to take a Pentium :/

Whatever... I should have a new comp soon...
