Staredit Network -> Games -> Rate 2005

With summer coming to a close, I think it would be interesting to see how people would rate the year so far in terms of quality gaming, preferably using a letter grade (A B C D F). Also any predictions on how the year is expected to end up when everything is said and done would also be appreciated.

Anyway, I'll go first:

The obvious difference between this year and previous years (especially 2004) was the lack of brand-names. Last year, everyone was waiting on Doom 3, Halo 2, Half-Life 2, KoTOR 2, GTA, MGS 3, etc. This year with the exception of Resident Evil there hasn't been a real tent-pole type of game released. However, there did seem to be more experimentation this year and less franchise installments. So far it's been a B, maybe B+ for me. We've had strong games, but with the exception of a few (Brothers in Arms, Resident Evil 4 and others) there hasn't been too much to write home about. Even the next gen unveilings at the E3 kind of failed to cause the excitement that people expected. It's been relatively slow year and I think Gaming Discussion has reflected that.

I do see great promise for the coming months however, as some great games like F.E.A.R., The Suffering 2, Brothers in Arms: EiB, Call of Duty 2, etc. are being released.

PSSST
KOTOR2 came out this year....

So far it's been ok, some decent games out this year so far are: Resident Evil 4, Incredblie Hulk, Killer 7, Conker: Live and Reloaded, BF2, Destory All Humans, Guild Wars, Jade Empire, and God of War.

For the rest of the year I'm looking forward to: Age of Empires 3, Matrix: Path of Neo, Rachet: Deadlock, The Movies, Soul Caliber 3, True Crime: New York City and Prince of Persia 3.

I'd give it a B, whi;e these are all great games I was expecting most of them to suck or not be that great (DAH, Incredblie Hulk, God of War, Conker) But they turned out ok. The doubts on the "Coming Soon" list are True Crime, Path of Neo, and Soul Caliber 3. But we'll all see :-). 2005 missed the heavy blockbuster hitters (Metroid Prime, Halo, Half Life, GTA, etc.) But it has it's own caliber, SOUL CALIBER!!!! [/LOLROFLMALPOP!!]
