Genre: Third Person Action
You guys owe it to yourself to pick up this rare game. It's made by Free Radical, the people that worked on the Time Splitters series, and beforehand, on PD and Goldeneye.
The story is mysterious and leaves you full of questions right from the menu screen. You swap back and forth in time between missions, though you can NOT control time itself. You are John Vattic, a patient who wakes up and discovers psychic powers. You have recurring memories of the past, where you did a mission in Russia (how usual) and play the game from there.
It's really unique, since the timeline constantly shifts. If you have seen Memento, it is executed in a similar way.
You can choose to either play a mission in different ways. For example, you can either play the training mission correctly, OR you can find a rifle and shoot up the teachers. You also get cutscenes based on your choices, very cool indeed.
Gameplay is played out mostly in a third person view. You can choose to play from a fixed, chase or first person camera. However, you can not move in first person mode, though you can turn.
There is autoaim, but it only aims at the chest. It's up to you to refine it so it targets heads.
You can choose from a good variety of weapons and have a few psychic powers to keep things interesting. What's cool is you can see weapons being animated in first person mode. It's no surprise that it works well, given their track record.
The atmosphere in the game is great. Though the style is cartoonish, it is FAR from humorous. The music is creepy, disturbing and makes you want to pee. The colors range from white snow to grimey green of prisons and hospitals. Though the dialog seems lame at first, you will become attached to the characters once you beat several missions.
The game is fairly detailed as well. Computers look and feel like computers. There are many descriptions for each of the characters. Puzzles are clever, but are never too hard like Zelda games.
Overall, I think it's a great game that many people have missed. It has a solid storyline, enjoyable gameplay, and good atmosphere. Throw in a cheap price tag and you should be sold.
