Staredit Network -> UMS Assistance -> Stopping a unit where it is
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Anonymous..... on 2005-09-05 at 02:19:36
Is there any way to stop a unit on its course to somewhere? I have a bunch of observers moving together and need them all to stop right where they are. (In this map all obs must be in the right place at all times because I have locations centered around them, forming something a little like a grid. Anyway, is there any way to do this? Like an order to move to [no location]? Cause I'm at the location limit and I can't afford another 20 locations for where each ob has to be in conjunction with each other. I checked the AI scripts... helpsmilie.gif

Be more location efficient. There really isn't a need to hit or exceed the location limit if you slow down on the locations and just do a bit more work with triggers.

You could move a location to the observer, and move (or order) the observer to that location. It wouldn't actually go anywhere, just stop right where it is, which is what I think you want it to do. Give the observer to another player, repeat for all the other observers and give them back to the original player when it's done. You'll only need one location for that to work.

To stop them, Move (teleport) them to a location where you have a Building In Transit. They won't be able to move (teleport) there so they will stop.

Cool, it works , thx. And I'm out of locations cause my map is huge (256x256) and if I wasnt efficient I'd have run out a long time ago. There isn't a way I can exceed 255 locations, like some program or something, is there? huh.gif

No there isn't a way to go above 254.

PS. Would you please change your avatar, its sick and inappropriate.

Actually it doesn't work, I just said it did before i tried it cause I thought it would O_o

And I'm not actually OUT of locations, I'm just trying to save some for the last level (No its not a bound or defense). Anyway they just keep on going and for some reason the map speeds up to like 1.5x speed O_o. Did I find a new way to speed up a map? biggrin.gif

PS:
I changed my avatar, now it's not funny cry.gif

Trying to move ground over invalid terrain and air to where there're other air units (like buildings in transit) freezes them, but don't mix the two up or else it won't work. Is that what you did?

Er no. I'm 100% sure I moved it to buildings in transit. I should've been more specific. They dont stop or disappear, they just keep going. :/

Either way I'll jsut have it skip the miniboss and take advantage of how it starts going faster O_o

That's impossible unless you ordered them again.

Constantly move (teleport) them to the building in transit or place more buildings in transit.

I dunno, maybe it's some glitch... I'm not ordering them again, and i used a switch to constantly move them, they just keep going and the map speeds up O_o wonder why... And no, I didn't order them to move to the buildings, I used a move trigger.

Are you using hyper triggers?
