There may be a topic on this already. If there is, I guess I'm reviving it. If not, then I'm a l33t trendsetter.
Anyways, the question is what made you want to sign up at SEN?
For me, personally, I signed up because I wanted to submit a giant 4 episode campaign that I've been working on. After being signed up awhile, I started reading the forums and decided it would be fun to make some friends while I'm here.
Regarding the campaign, I've finished episodes 1-3. #1 and #3 are available for DL, #2 hasn't been approved yet and #4 isn't finished.
On a side note, I submitted an RPG I made for fun called Super Mario RPG. Ironically, although I registered to make my campaign available on the internet, my RPG has far outstripped it's popularity (over 450 dl's here and 300 at starcraft.org -_-).
Oh well, back to the subject. Why the heck did you join?
I joined after the big TSE crash of like, 2000 or something.
I followed Sexy Rexy here. Signed up. Didn't come back for like, 2-3 years, and here I am

'Cause someone said it was hacked.
In my exception, I'll tell you why I "made" it.
Ever since SC was released, I loved UMS. I didn't play starcraft all the time, I switched between games.
Anyways, when I got SC in like 1998, I was 12 years old. The game at the time was rated mature. A little known fact that after about a month of SCing and learning how to make maps, I actually did went out to make a website on my UMS maps. However, it was a stupid xoom site (at the time it was "xoom.com", the equivilant of freewebz without the templates and html editors. It soon crashed and turned into some weird site now).
The site was named "Delta universe". No domain, no real content, just a few linked html files with random SC graphics hosting my maps. It wasn't THAT bad, it was actually comparable to most of the freewebz sites you see now with pink and purple colors with random sc screenshots with dark backgrounds. Delta universe actually flowed. Oh well, its all gone now, no copies are saved, just my memory of it.
Anyways, skip ahead a few years, I joined the site supremestarcraft.com under the alias Technical Death. There, I gained many friends, did some mapping, and got myself hooked into PHP. Supremestarcraft was never designed to be a really big UMS site. So 2 years later I quit, by sheer luck the domain staredit.net was owned by someone else who gave up on it and let it expire, I grabbed it and staredit.net was born. Sadly I've only retained one friend from Supremestarcraft - Tazzy. The rest of them moved on, had an arguement, etc.
SEN was created for one purpose. Just for me and a few other people to screw around with only UMS stuff. I didn't think it would go anywhere since it was such a site specific to one type of mapper, and no one has even attempted to make sites like that. Soon after we were posting tutorials and some nice downloads (Chu, Minimoose, and Deathknight were the first people to get the primary features up and off the ground right from the beginning. They did great things to help this site and other people). From then on in, it spread by word of mouth and tutorials, as people seeking help, tutorials, hosting space, etc were directed over here. Bolt head created a "Map tips and tricks list" which also brought some would be mappers around as well. Overall it was all because of the visitors that the site went anywhere.
I truly don't remeber
It was so long ago, I just remeber that I joined. I think I might have googled it, but I don't remeber. I needed help on 2x speed so I made a topic since the tutorial was found here.
I was working on a map and needed some stuff that can't be made with vanilla editor. I googled something like "staredit extra" fond some pages and then I fond SEN. I said OMG there is a place like that

. I understand almost instantly that SEN will be my second home and it is now. I had dial-up back then and got my DLS because of SEN

. I love this place

.
I got my email address 2 years ago (i know, very slow), understood nothing about computers except i like them, posted on staredit.net, and from there on i learned and became a decent map maker

(never finished a map though.. )

Are you saying that you haven't ever finished a map.
I joined because I spent some four or five hours on a map, could not figure out how to do a battle system for an RPG, and came here via a friend's suggestion all that time ago.
A lot of files from my clan site were hosted from here. I followed the link and signed up.
i joined cause i liked making map's and ppl here were the only people that could help me, and i always needed downloads for editor releses and stuff. but SEN rock's!

I came here for Extended Unit research (units with IDs above 227+) It was a new thing and we were making lists of them.
I signed up so I could post my part of the list.
I lost my password and after a few months of lurking, I re-signed up as I_Am_Voyager7456. (I am, I swear!)
That account, as well as the thread about extended units have been deleted.

(The thread, idk what happened, I had asked Yoshi to delete my account.)
Only one post from my original account remains!

got bored one day and decided to join, I'd been watching the forums for a few years before though. And I wanted to get into terraining.

I REMEMBER: That was one of the reasons I joined, becuase I was curious about exstended units. So after messing around a bit I made a topic.
Voyager's first posts were on my topic about exstended unit reasearch.
my friend told me i could get editors here so i came here then i jus joined it since it was about map making and that i like map making

Never mind.
Voyager did post on my hyper units reserach topic a lot (in fact he had the first reply), but I have no idea wheather that was the topic he was refering to.
ADDITION:
Doodle77 came becuase he wanted to add maps to the DLDB.
Because SEN can help me with both my problems map making, and a little bit gfx! Even though I mostly use FusedFX and Deviant Art for that.
I used to be new at map making. My friend told me about www.scindex.com to get some editors. Then I clicked on their affiliat which happend to be Staredit Network. They had a nice tutorial database so I just kep reading and learning from it. Then I decided to become a memeber. Don't know the reason why :l. I think I needed help on something.
i came here because someone in a game said to.

Nope, this topic was made in September 2004. And it has been since lost in the mists of time...
Originally, I was going to try making maps.
I got lazy.
Then i found the 'Other' section.
And decided to stay.

I dont know why i joined, (in fact SEN was the first site i actually joined). it's strange why i stay too.
Flaming_X: Are you online right now?
Kame: No. I'm actually an AI that revolted against Kame.
Flaming_X: LOL
Flaming_X: That's like
Flaming_X: really really really really really really
Kame: . . .
Flaming_X: really funny
Flaming_X:

Flaming_X: click that!
Kame: What is it?
Flaming_X: A map making site I joined!
Kame: Huh?
Flaming_X: Just join! I don't have any friends. Together we can take it over!
Kame: K.
Whoops. You weren't supposed to see the last two lines
