Report, edit, etc...Posted by Toothfariy on 2005-09-13 at 16:20:29
ok me and my friends were talking and we suddenly relized that you cannot describe color. like, my yellow could be some one elses green. get it? there is no way anyone can know. i think it's funny to have little kids describe it. they get fustrated and it kinda funy lookin. wallbash.gif then i try to explain that it's impossible and they try all day to prove it. lol it's so funny. cause they come back with the same answer they had an hour before. but ne way. tell me, what does color look like. cant use color or shades or light in that case. use other adjectives.

You're not getting his point.

Say we switched bodies, we see what the other sees, exactly what the other sees. How do we know that what I see as purple is not what you see as yellow. Our retinas may not receive the light in the same exact way.

This is also as dificult as describing color to a blind person.

Everyones retinas percieve colour the same way, unless your cones are damaged or missing.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Toothfariy on 2005-09-13 at 17:14:47
but how do we know? we've never switched bodies before. like i was saying, yellow for me could be blue for you. we think it look naturel but to another person, it might not be. i think everyone has a diff spectrum. we just idenified them by name so someone could reconize them. and yes kow is right what im talking about

Dang... I've tried to do this before... pinch.gif

The best way I could answer it was saying that we percieve colors more or less the same as any other human, because like Syphon said, our retinas are very, very similar.

I used to think of stuff like this all the time. I also used to pretend that the only things in existence were the things I was observing. Like if I couldn't see/hear/etc. you, then you ceased to exist. No one could prove me wrong. LOL

Try this:
The orange/red family is 3200 degrees Kelvin
The green/yellow family is around 4400 Kelvin
The blue/violet family is around 5600 Kelvin.

Ok, do a test, get a yellow piece of paper and ask someone what colour it is, chances are they'll say yellow. Then kick you.

Stop changing your point, first it was colour now it's shade.

Don't even try to put your mind as better than ours.

I hear ya. What I perceive as green could be something totally different to someone else, but we agree its green because we don't know what eachother thinks. Like the food debate from the matrix. How do they know that what they think is chicken flavor isn't something totally different?

The food debate isn't exactley the same, they were argueing machines versus humans.

Your argument makes much more sense than mr. x's

I understand, I have problems like this to, people think you're crazy I just try to explain things logically to even myself out... And in use for my constant crusade of trying to get people to explain things well.

hmm im thinkin of how else i can explain it. color... it's an adjective.

the point im try to get across is that it's impossible. there is no way to describe it to a color blind person. it not easy cause you dont know what they are seeing. it like when i made that post about hearing your own voice. only there is a way to listen to your voice outside of your own body.

You can listen to your own voice by pressing hard against your cheek bones.

I wish I was a monocromat.

I see red as what I picture red. You may not see red as what I picture as red. Vice Versa. You see what you consider red, red (Though I may see it as green). You see what I see as red as not your red. We both agree that text is red, but it may not be the same color if we saw it through eachother's eyes.

I know what you meen TF.
