w00t.gif wouldn't it be cool if some one made a 4th race, or an editor that brakes open some of the game and lets you make a 4th race? it would be so fun, just need to find someone who can do that sorta thing

Realisticly speaking, you'd have to completely reprogram almost the entire game engine to allow for a new race. Too much of the specific stuff is exe dependant. Thats not to mention that the size of the .dat files is pretty limited already, if you're just adding, and not replaceing. It would be nice, but impossible. I tried extending the .dat files and it didn't work. And that's only the first step.

PS - If someone wants to prove me wrong, go right ahead. I know, I said IMPOSSIBLE.

There's certainly enough .dat entries... the problem is the GUI, adding it to the menu, etc.

The closest thing I've come up with is to have player start off with a building and be able to morph it into 4 different Town Halls.

I have seen mods with two races (can't remember which blushing.gif); if you can remove one, how hard could it be to add one?

Interface needs to be reprogramed so you can choose one of the 4 if you add one. A place for supply needs to be added into memory, because there isn't one. New button sets, more .dat entries(mainly sprites and flingy). And that's just of the top of my head.

But if you have protoss w/ mind control(I know it doesn't happen much), then you'd have to split the supply. Plus, how'd you get them into the game? Only UMS would work that way.

But, That town hall idea is interesting.

I had an idea for some time now. What about spliting each race into two?

It make sense.

Protoss > High and Dark Templar.

Terran > UED and the dominion.

Zerg > Kerrigans broods, renegade broods.

You wouldn't have to add many things as they could share most buildings, but you would have to make quite a few new units. (Probably just convert heroes.)

You could, with all modding programs(including Memgraft), make a 1.12b mod that has 6 different races, but there would have to be groups of 2 per supply. So, both protoss races would use protoss supply.

There's a mod I'm making, I'm using the independent race as the Hybrid or the Xel'Naga. Except I'm not making a thread about that just yet...

Tell me if I'm talking out of my ass, but isn't the independent race a half-finished fourth race? How hard would it be to finish it and enable it? Besides, couldn't you copy a lot of code (adding a menu option, interface, etc.) from the sections dealing with the other races and then modify it?

When I was testing the supply and stuff I noticed that Independent supply didn't work. So you'd have that atleast to do... Also, the Independents use the Zerg GUI + sounds.

The Best solution for a problem is Blizzard will release StarCraft/BroodWar SDK ( practicable C++ coding and compile ) like Valve's HL SDK closedeyes.gif
