ONCE AGAIN, I was thinking of this before going into dreamland =P

I'm still wondering how people really see the word "newbie". Its first meaning, of course, is a new-by; someone that is new to something (a game, a culture, a sport, etc...). But with internet, no one could ignore the fact that a "noob" is someone that sucks, usually.

I was just thinking about that if you call someone a noob, do you think he'll have difficulties to split the different meanings? Or is it pejorative, as in "you're new so you don't have much value". I know it isn't the case around here (as the SEN introduction states), but it's still a concern...

Perhaps it's only different with different people that gives different judgements to it.

As for me, I don't like being called n00b... It just sounds immature and useless (refering to an old friend of mine that used to spam MSN windows with (n00b lol!!1). The point is; it shouldn't happen that way... Why did these guys around internet started to give this word such a meaning?

I voted I don't really care. Most people think that noobs are new at somethings bad at something or rather immature. I don't really care they will get better but sometimes they wont....*cough* Pred *cough*

I sort of associate Newbie and n00b 2 different ways. They both mean the same thing... someone new to whatever... but Newbie is just someone new... and n00b is someone who is a complete idiot and doesnt realize it.

I think a newb is just an idiot who wants to learn something, but doesn't try because of some lame exuse like "Too Lazy".

Just because you dont know something and you go out to learn it, doesn't mean your a newb.

I'm wondering who in here thinks I'm a newb to staredit.net and mapping? (one at a time please).

That's the problem. You can't really say anyone around are noobs until you see what they're able to do and their skills...

It only started cuz of... dunno... I still have to wonder why people are so "angry" or "eeeeeeeevil" on the net...

True... although most of the time Newbs are typically people who either dont speak much.. and just kind of sit there.. or speak in a language no one understand but them.... *grow confused* happens to me alot when i gm on UO

I love the word nOOb, it was born with the emergence of online games. I have always called someone a nOOb when they are really crappy at game, don't know they job in a MMORPG or ask dumb, odvious questions.

noob - someone stupid

Though it depends, on what they do. Now i play C&C renegade as i have a clan kinda thing gonig on:
I host a game with the game name: SNIPER SERVER, ONLY SNIPERS

And a guy/Gal comes in saying: Snipers only? Are we allowed tanks?

I think n00bs are mostly people who are new to something, though this can include people who are vets to something and still really bad.

But mostly, its just people who don't understand how something works, and get insulted when others reprimand them.

noob: What someone who has played the game for a month calles newbies.

Wow i never knew people had different connotations with Newb than they do with Noob.

I always considered them both a person who is ignorant towards something. And i don't mean dumb, look it up.

I say someone horrible at something.
It SHOULD mean "new at so-and-so", since, very horrendously extremely bloody obviously it derives from "new"(just as Gibs, NOT JIBS, derives from Giblets), and so WOULD mean "new at so-and-so" if its meaning weren't slaughtered by immature people on the internet...
But, as almost all people I meet use it for "crappy at so-and-so", it's how I use it \'=

im still kinda a noob at this, but on other games, people who have played for like 3 days call you a noob if theey kill u, its in ridiculous!
