Staredit Network -> Portal News -> Classic Trigedit Released!

Some of the innovations we see out there in the Starcraft Map editing world are the new trigger editors. As great as these new trigger editors are, sometimes they can be confusing, sometimes the syntax methods are annoying, and sometimes you just wish that you had your regular trigger editor.

You could always open up Xtra editor, but even that triggering system is limited by the capabilities of what Staredit is supposed to be. No extended players and so on.

Well, here comes another older recreated innovation! SI has created a trigger plugin for SCMdraft that emulates the orginal staredit trigger editor, with a few things to spice it up as well. It features almost all the capabilities you'll find in an advanced editor!

I personally like this plugin a lot. It allows map makers who are not too comfortable using the syntax trigger editors in both starforge or scmdraft, or map makers who just like the classic style of staredit in all its glory!

It's one of the coolest features in SCMDraft. For everyone who is going to complain about X-Tra, this is 100x better. It is a very good tool and I recommend anyone to use it.

Now if only SCMDraft supported StarForge's trigger syntax!

*Forsaken prays that SCMDraft Mac Version is released soon. That way DW can get started on updating TrigEdit.

The best thing is, people have a choice. Its added to the menu, so you can switch between em, if you want to use trigedit or classic trigedit.

If you think the staredit style triggering is n00bish, dont use it, and let others use it instead. I know I will.

I use this new classic trigedit since it came out and I LOVE it. Yes it is a little less comfortable than in X-tra but the ability to use extended players and stuff surely compensates it. When I will get used to it I won't switch editors ever again biggrin.gif .

What would you still like to see? I havn't used Staredit to make triggers for 3 or 4 years so I may be missing something obvious

Its basicly SCXE like triggers, which support string recycling and CUWP recycling.

Only thing missing is renaming switches, which will be added in the final version.

Not a big deal really. Just this is a bit annoying -[attachmentid=14066]. Well, I just liked the small pop-up window.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SI on 2005-09-21 at 12:43:12
oh, I found the popup windows for everything the most annoying part of triggering so I removed them, autocomplete should work, enter should select.

hm I probablyt should add escape to cancel selection, I'll see about doing that...

Yap escape as cancel would be good enough.

It's not that the classice style of trigger editing is "n00bish", I am just faster with the text based triggers(SF's format). But, in my opinion, now that SI has done the trigger editor like X-Tra, I may find myself using it more. Only because it helps visualize what's going on. Then after I get my trigger system working, I switch to the text based trigger editors to replicate them.

SI has been refusing to do this for the longest time....

Now that we have a Classic Trigedit, can you do a StarForge/autocomplete Trigedit?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by SI on 2005-09-21 at 17:02:17
yay, my reward for all this work is a demand for more work... ask heimdal to turn it into a plugin or wait until DW's trigedit has autocomplete =p

*m.r.bob forsees a bunch of newbs making acounts on SEN to tell Yoshi how thankful they are that the made classic trig edit dry.gif

Anyway, it's pretty cool, but I still prefer the SF trigger system... But ya, becuase of the masses and such, this was a better investment of time.

Prerelease #5

Perhaps make different Trigger Settings. Like, have one way of inserting triggers: 1-TrigEdit
2-Text (like StarForge)
3-Classic (like in the normal SE) (Cause I like that way better...)

Update by: SI
This is why I am offering the plugin interface, so everyone can make there own trigger editor. While trigedit may yet change I do not plan on offering SCXE like triggers.

Feel free to ask heimdal to convert his trigger editor into a scmdraft plugin wink.gif

Update by: LordVodka
Oh, come on. Please! I think the normal version is more user friendly.

Update by: Suicidal Insanity
I dont have the time to spend to make a normal trigger editor nor the patience, I would much rather spend the time I have on new features.

Great, we need more "OMFG DIS IS FOR N00BS ONLY" posts just to show "n00bs" what they get for using the trigger editor that makes the most sense...

Also, why would you thank Yoshi for something SI did?

well, there is a certain reason I ended up making this after all, actually two, one of which is so I have a trigger editor if / when project stingray is ready, the second will hopefully become apparent in a month or so wink.gif
I am glad some people are happy / satisfied / grateful smile.gif

I'm just guessing but the second is a new version of Scmdraft 2 coming out and you want it to include both plugins tongue.gif

And to think i was going to learn string syntaxs because of the annoyance of switching to X-tra. This saves me alot more trouble biggrin.gif

I have to check this out. I need all the capabilities Of EUD Conditions in the SCXE- from or something similar. If this supports EUD Conditions then SI is my god for the day.

atm It doesn't support EUD conditions, however it doesn't damage them either when editing a trigger that uses them.
