Im intrested to know about what people think about Prodject Revolution.
Its a Mod for Warcraft III:TheFrozenThrone that makes it exactly like Starcraft:Brood War except with the mapping capabilities and 3D game environment. This means above mod mapping possibilities and some crazy side view battles.(imagine standing on the roof of your house and watching 3 bc's and 2 wraiths shooting at 8 mutalisks)
Official website:
Prodject RevolutionSome screen shots of what it is so far:
Screen Shot 1Screen Shot 2Screen Shot 3Screen Shot 4It'll be closed. Blizzard is very good at protecting their IP.
Actually I think this is going to be like how Counter-Strike was and blizzard will buy it. If it was going to be closed then it would have happened forever ago because the PR team has been trying to get in contact with them for awhile. Imagine how much money they can make off of it.

How could they make money off of this? I doubt Warcraft players would buy it, and neither would Starcraft players due to gripes with the WC3 engine. I doubt they could make money with a mod for a 5 year old game. Maybe I'm wrong, though.
Plus, I'm pretty sure that Blizzard wants the first 3D Starcraft RTS to be Starcraft 2.
Blizzard will probably not make starcraft 2. They have no plans whatsoever about it. Starcraft players have no problem with the Wc3 engine. Just the game. They dont like the fact that theres heros and stuff. This will be EXACTLY like starcraft.
How could they make money off this? Well starcraft is an old game and it gets no new funding for the most part. Companies like intel or nvidia want games that take power so they can show off their fancy equipment. Plus with this they could completely revamp the starcraft ladder system. It would be like the great ladder system wc3 has. I'm sure people would buy it for the better graphics and mapping capabilities. You never know though, but Blizzard obviously thinks it has potential as it hasnt shut the prodject down yet.

Crap...
The Rines and Ling and stuff don't level, do they??
ADDITION:
Plus, I'm eager to know what the backside of all those structures look like!

Of course not. I said its exactly like starcraft EXACTLY. if you wanted to you could make a hero ling. Like for some sick ass RPG's or something of the sort. and yeah you can see the backside of the buildings. check out the screen shots, see how the angles are diffrent thats 3D!
I'm sure it's not exactly like starcraft.
Woah, 3Dness.
I have never seen something so 3D before. [/sarcasm]
ADDITION:
I don't think they've done the backsides, it doesn't show them in any of the snapshots...
they have to have done the backsides. Go to the official website and press on gallery. They have spinners of most of the models they have finished. And yes it is(will be) EXACTLY like starcraft when its done. Check it out its pretty cool, 3D models and all.
The structures don't spin. Take a look before you say stuff.
Oh yeah i forgot about that. The units do though. And they have made the backside or else they couldnt have put it in. Its a model it has to be fully done before they can input it in. that would be like making half a starcraft map and saying its done.
They haven't claimed anything is done.
And yes, you can have unfinished models.
If you looked at it from the back, you could see right through it.
If you programmed, you'd understand how rendering works.
Everything on the gallery is what they've claimed theyve done. and yes i knew that but that would crash the wc3 engine as it cant render something that isnt done
Maybe the backside is just a flat surface. That counts as undone.
Eh, whatever.

"Will there be a StarCraft® II? When?
Although we have not made any announcements and do not have a development or release timeline, we do fully intend to revisit the world of StarCraft on PC at some point in the future."
-Blizzard.
Reword what you said, they haven't ANNOUCED anything SC2 related, but they want to vist the SC world again.
This is the dumbest idea ever, these screenshots make me cringe, the game looks so bad I don't want that to be in SC2, I hope this fails so Blizzard sees not to make SC2 3D and cartonny like WC3. 3D ok if you can put all he gore and realistic look in it, and i mean realistic like Ghost Recon, not Wind Waker.
yeah that could be possible but i dont think so. Why would they use an unfinished model in game. Yeah your right w/e. Need more thoughts about PR here

Within 5 years they should have the technology to run things like Ghost Recon on an RTS level in 3D
Hey, the military has the technology to run America's Army on an MMO scale, which they have done to train their soldiers and commanders.
I don't know the source, but it's a game they play that's fairly like Planetside, where every soldier is a real person and the commanders are real people.
Differences: Much more realistic, encompases the whole world.
My favortie feature being world domination, at which point the server has to reset.
I'd rather have the game be a combination of both worlds. We could have the no-hero part of SC that made the game have strategy and we could have a simplified economy so we don't have to keep pressing P D or S so many times.
MMO's take a lot less power than RTS's in its full. That is to have a superb looking RTS. But yes there is the technology its just more expensive. my comp now that I got in 2001 cost $700 now it would cost $300. And it's not bad except the 128megs of RAM.
Um, it's a RTS, FPS, and a Simulator, all bundled up with a Physics Engine far more realistic that HL2's, and graphics that would blow you away.
It's the military, expect no less.
"If you programmed, you'd understand how rendering works."
Programming has nothing to do with 3d models (except in games, and even then only in some circumstances)... You could be a graphics designer and know that, or just some random person who was curious.
Is it just me or do people find it necessary to be such elitist condescending pricks?
Besides, not like what you're trying to nitpick at holds value. They've done the backs of structures. For example, take a look at the defiler mound/ultralisk cavern. As you yourself said, "Take a look before you say stuff."

This quote was created back when SC was first released. Back then WC3 hadn't existed. Maybe they changed their business tactics. Who knows, the point is you can't take a 7 year old quote out of context like that and think it still holds value.

...I think it's a pretty good idea. Look at the units/structures separately. I think they were done fairly well, and most of them look very much alike with their respective sprites.
SC was "cartoony". They definitely didn't go for realism.
Except in games. Um, hold on.
*Goes back and reads*
Yeah, we are talking about games.
What do you know?
Yeah and you have to remember these are like Alpha stages. look at the original Starcraft Alpha.
Heh, funny stuff.
Though there were some features I would have thought better left in the game.
