Well, what inspired me to make this is because theres this girl at my school who said like 30 times about in what should be a 10 word question. So, what are your thoughts on why people like to say like?

I think its because they talk before they think in their head how to properly phrase the question so they say like as a filler word while theyre thinking how to ask their question.

Because 'such as' is just sorta lame.
And how else would you say you mildly enjoy something?

Nope, no one here says "like" that often. The trend started about 5-6 years ago.It used to be a popular fad because the word like is "cool". People still say like, but in a grammatically correct way. This is just where I live though.

I still know a girl who is like that steriotypical person, who talks nonstop and says "like" for every third word.

It is used as a filler word for the people who aren't very intelligent in the language of English

It all started with the valley girls fad....damn those valley girls...I hate them so...

It doesn't really matter, I use it sometimes otherwise I pause.

I use it as a filler word for when I cannot think of another word.

Example: The dog is kick ass and cool... Like uh... Yeah! He is totally awesome.

I dunno.

This is just like my ranting about the word ignorant... God I hate slang.

i use like a lot but for a good reason. see i've done it since i was 5 years old and same with "sweet" and when i adress a friend or someone ill say "dude". so i use midwest surfer slang. it's pretty weird.

but girls have a lot to get out and they dont think b4 they speak it most of the time. (not saying all dont but a majority) they think about the thought and not what they are gona say.

I alway try to like not say like so many times. Ever since in grade 8 my teacher read us like an article about some people doing like research on people saying like. People say like 20 times in (forgot how long ). I try to say thing other words in replace like.

I end up saying like too many times when I describe something I did...


Example: I was like "WTF????"

...I try not to though, because I find it like... totally annoying.

It's hilarious when you tell someone that uses the word "like" alot not to say it before they give an oral speech (without reading off something).

Just cause you say the word like a lot, doesn't mean you're stupid. Just means you're not that quick witted.

Like because some idiot started saying "like," and it like turned into a slang-fad.

like if you know saying like like this is like totally gay like only like total like preps like say like this much why like would anyone like speak like this like?

There's an equivalent to "like" in, I'd assume, every language. It's what people say in conversation when they need to pause for thought and yet still feel the need to fill the blank with an audiable word.

Like is also a lower form of an more advanced word like "such as", it's used in most cases to compare two things. But, it's usually as a filler, to give yourself some time to think about what to say. I usually go "Uh.." more thugh.

What about people saying "You know?" after everything. You know?

Umm...what about like you know what uh all the other words that like people use you know like ahhh and umm and dude and sweet.. the list like goes on forever you know like that song from lamb chops...ya know

lol when i was in 4th grade our teacher was talking to us about drugs and there was a kid who asked a question and said it kinda like this. "If like you like smoke like marijuana like would u like die?"
