Funpic.org is the only good host I've ever seen but it's very slow when it comes to Invision Power Board software used on their server. I want a decent, php-supported, fast, and ad-free host. Most of them requires adminstrator validation, non-existent, and/or prevents new registrations. So can anyone recommend me to a host of my dreams? Thank you very much! happy.gif

Have a static IP and a computer you can leave on 24-7? Host your own webserver!

That is not very safe for your computer. Besides, I have a server on my computer right now and I can only access it locally (yes, I know I ought to try forwarding port 80 on my router).

Speaking of hosting, anyone know of free host (don't care too much about quality) with PyXML? I simply cannot find one.

Running a apache server with the latest patches is not really that much of a security risk really. Also if you are only developing code on your machine and have no need to use FTP it only decreases security risk.

Just register a name and via name server you can point the name to your IP with open 80 port on your router. Also if you do get hacked (somehow) it's a great learning experience in seeing how they did it and then patching the hole and learn from your mistake. Just back up your stuff regularly and you have nothing to fear.

Actually, I prefer a host not on my computer. I have an account on f2g.net. They do support everything funpic.org have and is tad bit faster. But, I forgot the password and the email I used to register with. blushing.gif

Even if you don't host your webpage off of your computer it is great for development since you don't have to upload your code to the server to test to see if it works... you can just load up the page after you saved the file and thats it.

I have a cable connection and I know it would work just fine for a medium traffic site. Usually your cable provider will start to comlain before the people that view your site do... If all your hosting is a few page site with a forum, your own server is overkill. Free hosting sites pile yoursite up with hundreds of other sites on the same server and usually their SQL server response times are terrible.

http://www.hostmatrix.org
Google also works. dry.gif

And installing Apache on my computer without a firewall turned it into a server. Installing it on one with a firewall made it so I know when you're trying to access Apache and I get your IP. smile.gif

(I'm not too sure how all that works, though)

[center]Good to see you back, Rexy.
I used to host a small site on computer, but 56K pwned those plans.
I'm also looking for a good host that doesn't require me to do anything. Just sign up, and host. No posting on their forums, no filling out offers for spam, none of that.
