Over the last few months, I have seen a decline in activity between a majority of members. No doubt this is in large part to school, but also even during the summer, when people did not had school. Also, I've even seen a drastic change in Battle.net conduct. Far are these are the days when people routinely called someone else a "newb" simply because they themselves sucked, or got j00-pwned. Now, it is mostly true. No new way to make maps, and no new map style have I observed that catches my attention.
I see LotRish maps thrown around like no one cares, leaving on a whim, when at one point in time, I could play without interruption. Classic ideas have been despoiled by the onslaught of high-damage maps that have 1760-Stim Pak'in' Marine Heroes, and 6k damage Jimmy Battlecruisers!
RPGs are drab and boring. No plot is left, only remakes of some crappy idea that didn't work. RPs are formulaic and made mostly by the same people; same ideas, same style, same flaws. SC campaign type maps have died within the first 3 years of SC life. That which has shown promise is abandoned.
Even Blizzard has tried to keep fan support and morale up, by patching continuously, not yet realizing, it may have angered more people then helped; as in pissing off people that care more about a replay that doesn't matter, or stopping hackers from hacking to their heart's content. But it does not work anymore! Blizzard has moved on more so to its cash cow, World of Warcraft, and to some extent, Warcraft III.
Starcraft is now but a lasting, drowning, failing, abhorred dream. Blizzard stays to humor us. Starcraft: Ghost was delayed beyond thought. SC II is NOT coming out, no matter how much we wish for it to do so.
Even people that led once numerous and powerful message boards and communities have in essence, jumped ship. Yoshi has pretty much left, and whether he denies it or not, he'll probably not be with us in major part too much longer. I a few months ago fought to deny it, but now, it is true. Ever since EUDs, it has not been the same. Perhaps people don't get that we have lived without them, when they were taken away from us, and they left by the droves to develop something that was shot dead by a 1.13 mm bullet. Even devilesk is tame and to some extent, respectful, even to a "newb" such as I.
Perhaps the end has come after all. Most of the people that grew up with this game are now too old to worry about something that their girlfriends make them not play. Or the people that fight to keep this alive were too young. Or the fault is in all of us, for not making sure that SC longevity is made secure.
If you would like to post your opinion on this, please do so. Maybe I have made you use your brain for once. I couldn't care less if you did, but if you actually read everything I have said thus far, good for you. If you care to comment, even better.
On a lighter note...
Umm...
No.
Can't think of anything.

Yoshi isn't really a blow to StarCraft, he wasn't that important. Manifesto7 was more important and I bet 90% of this community has never heard of him.

If Blizzard didn't like to make money, maybe. Everyony knows it'll be an instant sellout, but they're busy with WoW right now, if it takes a decade, whatever, it's going to come out.

That's loser talk. It's like the guys in the images forum who *****ed when clan ae (or whatever it was) had smaller file sizes than they were used to. Screw the limits and just make something you think will be fun.
StarCraft will never die, not the heart of it anyway. The game is just far too fun and complex. Many still agree that it is the best RTS of all time and will likly remain for quite some time. If you want new excitiment, start gambling on StarCraft.
Honestly, there are entire worlds of StarCraft I bet you've never heard of...

Blizzard, just like any huge gaming company, has different divisions that work on different games now. I'm not at all surprised that they aren't releasing information about SC2, they're afraid of losing their fanbase too quickly. I think they want to make sure they're doing things right this time around.
Maybe I'm wrong.
But I definitely know I've seen a bunch of topics like this for like 3 years now.
Here is my opinion.
Once starcraft ghost comes out, people will start to go onto the PC game of starcraft. Every one will be talking about for about 2-3 weeks, then everything will be good as new.
Holy crap, where's the stunned, clapping smilie? That was one of the best posts I've read in a long time.
StarCraft is dying, no denying it. It's been going downhill ever since the extra editors emerged. Opportunity kills creativity. There's no next generation of Bolt Heads, no more Tuxedo Templars, just low to average skilled map makers asking the same questions over and over, making the same maps over and over. UMS is the only thing keeping SC alive, and it's our job to keep UMS alive.
