Staredit Network -> Lite Discussion -> Does SEN/Starcraft stop you from having a life?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by scwizard on 2005-10-03 at 17:07:10
I often here from people that SEN is ruining their lives.
For example Oo.Hydra.oO (remember him), got himself banned by Yoshi becuase he was saying that SEN was consuming his life and making him anti-social.
Also 007Torrasque recently said that he left SEN becuase he had an uncontrolable SC obsession. And that since cold turkeying SC, he's gotten a life and a girlfriend.

So if your reading this topic, does that mean you have no life?
Should we all stop going on SEN / Battle.net becuase it's preventing us from having a girlfriend?
Has SEN ruined your life?
Do you know anyone who's had their life ruined by SC?
Is it possible to be happy, have friends, date girls, make starcraft maps and maintain above 50% participation on SEN?

tis quite possible in fact im doing it right now smile.gif all you need is a good ballance of good and bad chi >,< But seriously i think the main problem is that these people are just spending too much time and dont have the will power to do somthing besides play SC or go on SEN. I think that all you need to do is maby spend 2 hours on SC, SEN or Map-making then use the rest of the time to do important things then if any time is left over go back to SC, SEN or mapmaking.

StarCraft can and will rule your life if you allow it to, as will anything else. Reading, cleaning, beating the meat, clipping your nails, homework, anything can consume your time and life. Passion versus obsession. There is nothing wrong with having a passion for something. But, when you're missing out on other areas of your life, you're obsessed with it. You're devoting so much time to it, that other things get in the way.

This brings me to another point. The "I'm bored" people. Ever why when I hear on B.net "I'm so bored I check SEN every 15 minutes etc" and tell them to go ouside. If you're BORED doing something, not doing it is a good solution.

Time management, very important. You don't need to write down a big schedule or planner, but just some wisdom in judging how much time you should be putting into the things that you do.

Yes.

I'm perfectly happy and have plenty of friends. I'm just not making SC maps anymore. But I do have a life and went out just last Friday and I'm going to a birthday party next Saturday. And you can see I still have a 50%+ participation on SEN.

Sen is just something to do when I'm not busy. I just wish I could drive so I could get a job and actually do stuff.

I'm bored, but I do my best not to be. SEN helps that a bit, its no obsession, as you can see. I've been on many streaks where I havn't posted a thing for a week, and then, next week, I post a dozen in a day. So, it blends in....most of the time.

No. Just no. Only stupid people trully get addicted to StarCraft and/or its expansion pack: Brood War. Intelligent people fake their addiction in order to play the confusion card among the children that you people are.

Starcrafts last on my list of things to do, I usually log on late at night for 30 mins. My participation is nowhere near 50% so I guess this doesn't apply to me, but I still have friends, a girlfriend and it doesn't interfere with my life whatsoever. I can't imagine how it possibly could interfere with your life, why choose an 8 year old game over a social life?

since everyone likes you in an 8 year old game?

Starcraft actually sometimes helps me wit homework. WHen I make maps, It's almost like making my own story, and I always strive for perfect grammer, making me a better speller. Also, I try to use more vocab to make maps look fancy.
Also, you guyz are my friends, and when I'm not feeling good, u guyz are always there for me to cheer me up... cept the guyz who hate me... yes, I'm looking at you, Theodore William Eskimo...

[center]SC/SEN's more addictive than meth.

I actually have a life, amazing as that may sound. I'm only usually on SEN during the time people I know are at school, or at like freakish times during the night.

That's great. However why couldn't it happen that way for Oo.Hydra.oO and 007Torrasque?
Why do they say Starcraft/SEN made their lives fall apart?

ADDITION: Also, if someone like me doesn't have a girlfriend, is SC to blame? Does this mean I should stop?

It depends on how much you play StarCraft.

If you spend every single minute of your life on it after you get out of school, go get a life.

I've stopped playing Starcraft for a while possibly for the whole year and I don't come on SEN that much. I don't think it ruined my life maybe just took a bit of my daily time.
