ยป The DLDB sucks

Maybe we could remove evrey file from the DLDB, and start it all over again. This way we know what belongs and doesn't.

Other then that, we could look through evrey single little file in the DLDB to make sure evreything belongs where it is suppose to belong, and the map or whatever meets all of the requirements to stay.

Just an idea happy.gif

I doubt many people will support starting over the DLDB. Looking through manually sounds better.

Personally, I think that might just work. But, that's a truckload of files to nuke and lost of stuff lost. But, we could also probably get some better code working in there as we do it. This is something for isolated to decide on.

If we were to just look through all of the files, it would take ATLEAST 1-2 months... Why do that when we can just delete them all, and start accepting the better and more efficient files.

Like some melee maps just straight up suck, and same with some of the UMS maps. If IP has some special way to manually delete every file at once, that would be great.

If we get the go ahead to delete the files, im sure we could do it. Then we would need IP to make some kind of page that sais the DLDB is down for maitnence, and don't say anything of what were doing to the community.

I can delete every file manually right now if I wanted to. Anyway, Slyence, you have a nice scandal going on that might interest you: http://www.staredit.net/index.php?showtopic=21426
I hate to say it, but SEN staff shouldn't be pulling crap like this and you'd better answer for yourself.

Wow, is quoting that serious?

Like I said before, you can take away al of my minerals, and all of my posts... I don't care about them...

I guess next time I will quote closedeyes.gif

Problem might be easier than we think. A lot of the files "in SQL but not in directory" are, coincidentally, also the ones "in directory and not SQL". I already resubmitted "Halo: Blood Gulch" with the same information the original submitter gave, and many of the others should be the same easy work.

I though you meant the code sucks, not the content.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Slyence on 2005-10-01 at 13:26:22
The code is fine, I suppose. But I have to admit alot of files in the DLDB have like 1 view and 0 downloads, and they have been in there for well over a month.

Files like that probally have no reason to be there except to suck up bandwidth. So we could just get rid of ALL of the files in the DLDB, and only accept files that actually have a purpose to be in the DLDB.

There is almost 3000 files in the DLDB, and I would have to say that 1500 files in there suck.

The code sucks more. tongue.gif

Anyway, I looked at the file approve code and I can't find anything that would incremement post count. I have done tested and the post count does up. I'll just have to keep looking into why.

Sending PMs couldn't possibly increment your post count, could it?

When you mass approve, it doesn't send out PMs. I think the post count bug is in the PM send somewhere.

Should just work on coding a DLDB from scratch. I'm sure IP would appreciate that so you could modify it for v5 as well. Hell even I would be interested in doing that. Sounds like a fun programming project to me.

If I had the knowledge to code a whole DLDB... I would. Something to work on in my free time.

Deleting all dldb files = bad. Everyone would be ticked off.

Another thing, this server "company" is ripping off yoshi. Either yoshi needs to change it or get his money back..or something..
Report, edit, etc...Posted by chuiu on 2005-10-04 at 18:51:19
It's IP paying for it. And I've told him countless times to change it, even provided him with a better host to go to. I guess he just doesn't want to be a team player.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by PCFredZ on 2005-10-04 at 21:05:58
Ok, now my post count just doesn't go up no matter what I do.

EDIT: oh wait, it went up by 1 after SEVERAL posts in MMA... that's just confusing.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Slyence on 2005-10-07 at 13:32:34
It goes up every time you make the required amount of characters in each post...

For example, say you need 50 characters to go up one post count...

So then you make a post with 10 characters, you still don't go up. Then you make another post with 20 characters, you still don't go up. Then finally you make a last post with 20 characters, then you will go up.

As for the DLDB, someone could make a page that sais the DLDB is under maitnence so everyone doesn't go "OMGOMGWTF?!!!1?"

That way, people don't act immature and what not, they know it's under maitnence smile.gif

Moose, what do you think about this? I don't know a lot about how invision works, but I know quite a bit of programming and can carry that over to the php portion of this.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Mini Moose 2707 on 2005-10-07 at 22:06:33
Well, I can tell you one thing: Its beyond my abilities. I can give you Invision's code, direct you to the PHP manual, and whatever other help you need. You and whoever you designate will be doing the brunt of the work, so its your call.

Why change it to a negative? Just keep it neutralized, damn.

Don't see why we have to be punished for accepting a map now.
