Hmm, I've never seen something like that happen to a modern operating system before...I did, however, have a similar problem on my old 233mghz iMac, where a folder with nothing in it simply refused to let me delete it. The problem happened several years ago, and the thing still won't go away...however, despite all my poking and prodding of it, the messed-up folder hasn't caused any problems that I could see during that time. Eventually, I simply renamed it, and reincorporated it into my organizational scheme, since it is harmless.

But maybe this is not the same thing, so here are a few suggestions...
1) Close everything you have running that is closeable. See if the file will die then.
2) Restart, then try to kill it again, and see if it dies.
3) Ignore it, and try again at a significantly later date; systems like to change in subtle ways over time, especially with the way modern OSes update themselves over the internet. Maybe it will die then.

Delete it manually using the DOS shell.

Start>Run>cmd

cd <insert directory here>

del <insert file here>

It overrides the "in use" error.

Is it on desktop?

Go

cd ~hd:\Documents and Settings\~user\Desktop

del WoW-1.1.0-Installer_Downloader-enUS.exe?

~hd is your hard drive letter, usually C.
~user is your username
I think the file is an exe, you'd have to find out.

Go Alt+Del+Ctrl and go to the second thingy at top, and it should say all the things that are running, and to close that running, close it, then delete.

No, no, no. Go to START. Then RUN.

[attachmentid=14416]

You should see this window. Type cd ~hd:\Documents and Settings\~user\Desktop I gave an example for my computer

[attachmentid=14417]

Then type del WoW-1.1.0-Installer_Downloader-enUS.exe?, or .whatever it is.

[attachmentid=14418]

Done. Sorry for huge images.

CODE
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\WoW-1.1.0-Installer_Downloader-enUS.exe
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

Start deleting processes and trying. Suggestion: don't delete explorer.exe or svchost.exe.

You could also delete it while running safe mode (press F12 during startup)

everything can be solved in safe mod, because no procsses are allowed to start up except the windows proccses. so restart in safe mode an try deleting it then.

Ok, I press F12 at start up and a screen comes up with 7 choices, but none of them are the Safe Mode choice. sad.gif
