Hmmm... I found staredit.net about a year ago but didn't sign up to be a member until June of this year. Long story ahead...
Around April of last year, I finally figured out how to use the campaign editor. I had fiddled around with it for a couple of years and couldn't figure out how to make triggers work. The concept of triggers just didn't make sense to me until one magical day when it finally clicked. Of course, I only learned the simplest triggers and made a crappy campaign about a guy named Doodan on my brother's computer. It ended up being 30 badly designed missions that my brother had the good grace to play through for me. It was a good learning experience though.
Later that year the idea for another chapter began stirring in my head and I resolved to make it a really good quality game. It would combine elements of the standard "build a base and attack" style of maps, RPGs, bounds, and movie maps. It was long and required lots of triggers that I had no idea how to do. After alot of trial and error, I decided to search the internet for map making tips. I found this site and it proved to be the most helpful.
After over 2 months of work, the 20 mission campaign was ready to be tested. I played through it once and my brother played through it once. He was very impressed and I was even moreso. By now it was February 2005 and I decided I wanted to post it on the internet on this site and starcraft.org. While I was in the process of playing through it one last time to make sure everything worked just right, my brother's computer crashed and could not be revived. I had not saved anything on disc, so all 50 missions were gone. TOAST! They might as well have never existed. That, coupled with the deaths of my grandma and my dog, and my son's mom's drug addictions, sent me into a depression that lasted a couple of months.
I finally snapped out of it and started fiddling with maps again after I got my very own computer. I made an RPG called "
Super Mario RPG" and made an account here named Doodan so I could post it. After awhile I started reading the forums and decided I would become active in the community.
That map reinvigorated my passion and so I set out to remake my Doodan missions. They have turned out much better than the first attempts. So far I have the first 30 finished and posted and am working on that complex, 20 mission final chapter. Finishing and posting those last 20 is my ultimate goal here.
I might as well do some shameless advertising:
Episode 1: Joining Forces, it's the first 6 maps.
Episode 2: The Infestation, the next 8 maps.
Episode 3: Retirement's End, the larger 16 map episode.
Now you know more about me and why I'm here!
