Staredit Network

Staredit Network -> StarCraft Editing Related -> I have a Staredit virus/bug
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Insane044 on 2005-10-14 at 22:36:17
Ok listen up. I have mcafee virus protection. It scanned my entire computer and I have 0 virus's. Now get this, when i load staredit, or xtra, or SF, and go to the "Scenario" then click "unit and hero settings" I am perfectly fine. I can "click" protoss/terran. BUT, when I click the "Zerg" part, my system CRASHES. It completely shuts OFF. BOOM. I even tryed to reinstall everything twice.

I am not sure why it is doing this. I even reformatted my computer last week because of this. It isnt a virus, thats for sure. Could it be some kind of bug in my harddrive? Anyone else have this problem? I remember going to certain webpages, my CPU also crashes. Like my college website, it crashes going to that too.

If mcafee says there are 0 virus's, there are 0 virus's. I was hoping someone would have a solution for me, or could help me and tell me what exactly is wrong, or can you please tell me how to get rid of this bug.

Remember - StarEdit - Scenarios - Unit and hero Settings - "Click zerg" and CRASH..

=(

Possibly you're missing some important files? But your ENTIRE system going down? That seems a little hard to believe just from one editor.

Reinstall StarCraft.

I reinstalled SC twice, plus reformatted. I have all of the files. Something is extremely wrong here. I think it may have been a previous virus I had doing some damage to my hard drive awhile back, but i never experienced something like this. =(

Mcafee doesn't catch all viruses, neither does norton, truth is there will always be at least 1 that passes by. Thats why I have AVG, norton, and mcafee.

Yea, but I mean this has to be something very minor and complicated. I mean, It happens the same way when i view some certain webpages as I said before. But the "Zerg" option on unit and hero settings crashes my computer. Nothing else does besides that.

It is frustrating to know that you will never be able to complete an RPG you have been working on for so long because you cant modify the zerg units all because of some unknown bug/virus. This really sucks. I even called HP support, and I couldnt understand what the hell indians say over the phone, so it was no help.

Are they all installed at once?

I only use AVG, and Microsoft Anit SpywareBeta, if you want i could make a Zip archive and put these files in with a SFX Moduale just for looks LOL.

It is idiotic to have that many on. Having more than one anti-virus installed and activated will basically eat your system resources and other harmful things. Have one anti virus UPDATED, and scan with housecall.trendmicro.com or other online scanners.

I'm not the one who said I have 3 virus protectors. I have only 1, which is mcafee. I dont get why this is crashing me, maybe I should take it into technical services and have them clean it out or something. I mean, I reformatted my computer twice and it still crashes my computer. So insanely stupid.

1. Could it be your missing certain files or something? I mean, that could be possible.
Or
2. Get a Mac

Does it crash with third party editors like StarForge or SCM Draft?

Sounds like there might be some screw up with your units.dat file, but that's a long shot. Maybe it isn't copying properly, since you said you've reinstalled so many times. Clean the CD and reinstall StarCraft, but like I said, a very long shot.

sounds more like physical damage to the hardware to me. (bad HDD, bad ram, etc)

uh not if you know what you are doing and set it up right. I have about 13 firefox windows open, photoshop CS2, Illustrator CS2, outlook, [windowed] morrowind, rainmeter, norton, mcafee, avg, itunes, aim triton, Visual C++ .NET, and bearshare on at same time. It just started to slow down the system. If i close bearsahre it runs smooth as a babies bottom. It catches every virus to come into this system. Having one with all updates still doesn't garentee it. Trust me, I know.

I'm talking about interfereing with one another, also. They can disrupt eachothers full timed-scans and make them not work at all. I read this somewhere.

I concur. Although it is not hard to believe after you observe the average person using a computer.

Not hard at all, whats worse is when the person in question has told you in advance they're good with computers...
Example: A semi-friend of mine managed to install one of those irritating viruses that spread by hijacking aim accounts WITH FIREFOX, thats right, he clicked "yes, run and download fhsaksed.exe" when a link someone sent to him took him to that download.
I lost much of my faith in the human race after discovering this.
