Staredit Network -> Games -> Reasons why people stop playing SC?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by TSoldier_Wol[f] on 2005-10-16 at 23:40:11
After 5 years of playing SC, the one main question that keeps coming up to me is, why are people starting to stop playing SC, I wanna know why. Some say it gets boring, others say, "It's getting old now" I want to know what ya'll reasons. Also tell what your last map might be about.

OFFTOPIC: If I posted this topic in the wrong forum sorry about that. Had a hard time trying to think which one this should go into.

Most people that are qutting have been around since Starcraft was first released, so they are probably going to college, and thus have no time for computer games. There is also probably more selection of games now than there was 7 years ago when SC was released. Or some got addicted, and realized it was screwing up their grades or life or something and quit.

Because Close Combat: Invasion of Normandy is more realistic, and more fun.
Owned.

Wow, you made tons of spelling mistakes there Crayak.
"Because Close Combat: Invasion of Normandy is a terrible piece of dog vomit and the developers ought to choke to death on ape corpse wang.
I suck." Anyways, I don't see this "great death of Starcraft" you noobs keep rambling on about. There are millions of people playing Starcraft, just because they're not playing your crappy defense maps doesn't mean "Omfg the sky is falling!!!! omfg!!!!"

How in the world can you take two games that are completely different, a game based on history, and a game based on SciFi, and say one is more realistic than the other?

You can't. Its called sci-FICTION for a reason.

Most people just grow out of SC and move onto life.

Most of my friends that met when I first started playing SC stopped playing, and now most of my friends that I used to know on SC stopped cause they thought it's getting old and also they stopped playing because most of their friends started to stop playing that's was one of the main reasons why most of my old friends stopped playing.

I think that the RTS genre as a whole is dying. I haven't seen a really impressive RTS game in a while...

Hopefully Rise of Legends will solve that...

The only thing keeping me on B.net is my clan, all the maps suck.

Well, it's amazing that Starcraft even got this far. It's a testament to the amazingly replayable RTS genre. Like a bag of chips that has nearly empty, most of the fun of discovering has been lost, with only a few bits of new strategies around.

I believe the reason SC was so popular is because it was a game of strategy when it first came out. Nowadays, it's a game that focuses more on execution or how well a person does something, rather than what he chooses to do.

Anyway, the difference between realistic sci-fi from fantasy is that it attempts to explain how certain things got where. Fantasy explains everything from what it just is. How do I make fireballs? Well, you need power and that's from... yea. How are lasers shot? Well, you need to charge your ion cannon and have enough fuel cells, etc... Star Wars encorporates a lot of sci-fi and some fantasy with the force.

Revelade, what are you comparing? Realistic SciFi and Fantasy? I'm sure Normandy is not a fantasy game. closedeyes.gif

And I agree with you.

I wanted to point out the different between fantasy and realistic sci-fi, but I guess nobody argued about that so...

Actually wilhelm, people are playing SC way less, i remember 2 years ago in summer did /users and there were 250,000 people playing sc. This summer i did /users and the most I ever got was 100,000. The reason is that the people who used to play it are getting older, losing interest or simply don't have enough time to play it anymore. I started playing when I was 8 in like 1999, now im 14 and I barely play it.

Sadly, I too am playing SC much less. I suppose the main reason is due to school starting which has cut back on my playing time a lot. And another reason is I don't find it as interesting as before.

However, I know that after a while I will be back playing SC. Everyone needs a break from playing a game everday for a while.

Oh, and also, not many new people on SC, same noobs I see at SEN or some other channel everyday who don't game or nothing tongue.gif Nothing going on on bnet smile.gif

because when I think back through the years and how my life has changed, i realized that starcraft has encompassed my life in many ways. The clans I've been in, the people I knew in real life who played that have gone onto college, army, etc. It justs makes me sad. Been playing since 1998 and I'm glad that I have or else I wouldn't of met many of the friends I met on SC.

I've stopped playing Starcraft for now. I might get back into it later this year (the 2006 year). When I was recently playing, around 5 months ago until end of summer, I hardly ever joined any public games. All of them were private games hosted by a member of SEN.

Because 7 years is a little old for a game.

I still play it, though.

I no longer play Starcraft at all, instead:

Close Combat: Invasion of Normandy
Command and Conquer: Generals Zero Hour
Rome: Total War (Not the expansion >_<)
Morrowind: The Elder Scrolls III
Counter-Strike: Source

And various other HL and HL2 Mods...

I quit Starcraft because it grew too boring for me. Ive bought some games and kept them for a couple of months because i had such a weak computer. Now that i got another computer, those games just took me away from Starcraft. Now when i play SC or even work on a map i get the pain of boredom. As i knew it was coming, new comp means new games+leave SC behind.
