Staredit Network -> Miscellaneous -> Why does this happen?

I am running on a crappy dialup modem, but at the beginning of downloading something, I get this extremely high boost which is like 50x faster than my normal download (5Kb/s)
Look here:
[attachmentid=14594]

And it DOES have the effect, it just doesn't show "600Kb/s" to make me happy, it actually downloaded 400Kb in less than 3 seconds. Of course it goes down instantly, it goes from 600 to 200 to 75 to 20, than down by .2's, slows down at 8 than eventually gets stopped at around 6Kb/s.

What is the cause of this boost, and why can't I just keep my speed at that? If it CAN go that fast, isn't there a way to keep it that high?

Note that despite what it says, I am still downloading at 83% with 2 minutes left. If you were wondering, that's an Assault map for the FPS I have, Unreal tournament 2004, and it is saved as .7z, a compresser about 5x stronger than winzip, compresses 20MB maps into 4MB...

This happens to me too. Im running dialup right now because im looking for a new isp.
Sometimes its because the servers are really fast.

[center]I think it only does that because it takes time for you to click everything. When I download something, I click the link, a window pops up asking me what I want to do with it, so I click 'Save...', select a folder then click 'OK'. It's downloading the file that whole time. The speed you see is the browser loading the DL from the cache.
I think that's why that happend, not sure.
