Staredit Network

Staredit Network -> StarCraft Editing Related -> Translating StarEdit.net

I don't suppose this is a huge problem for most people since most everyone here speaks English in some shape or form, but if you try to use Google Translate to translate SEN to another language, all the pages get filled with the "I'm an idiot who likes to steal bandwidth, give me a cookie" image. This is no way a pressing issue, but I don't suppose it would be possible to make it so that this doesn't occur when using a translator, or would that create loopholes allowing people to link to things from SEN, :\

EDIT:

WTF, I was sure I was posting in the "Website Feedback, Bugs & Discussion" forum. That's where I meant to place this, sorry if I confused anyone.

EDIT: Corrected spelling mistakes I noticed.

Lol, when I first saw this I thought you meant along the lines of translating the mapping words tongue.gif.

I highly support this, whenever IP gets off his lazy ass and decides to code, he should probably add support for these languages (in order)

1. Korean
2. Spanish
3. French
4. German
5. Chinese
6. Japanese

I understand it is a huge project, but it would take huge steps in improving the global outreach of Staredit Network. Especially considering, gauged by the number of times the word "bedspread" appears in the translation of mapside.net pages, Google's Korean translator suxxors to da max.

So why would it say

"I'm an idiot who likes to steal bandwidth, give me a cookie"

instead of anything else?

You'll notice that if you link to an image directly from SEN on another site, it will be replaced with an image that says "I'm an idiot who likes to steal bandwidth, give me a cookie." When using something like Google to translate the pages, the URL is changed and all images; the background, emoticons, special symbols such as those besides the forum names on the main forum pages, are replaced with that image and makes SEN notoriously difficult to navigate.

I've noticed that before as well, do you know what the real translation is?, I've never figured it out, :\

Maybe German before French. But I see a lot of French people posting on these boards, especially those that can't speak English well.

Korean is by far the most important one though.

Works for me...

But try going around the site with a translator that changes the URL for a few minutes, and eventually all images will be changed. If there are any translators that don't chenge the URL, that would be great, but I don't know of any.

You can't preform any form-related actions such as logging in or registerring without jumping to normal SEN and losing the translation. We could definently use a foreign version of SEN.

Yes, but I still rank Korean as the most important translator language. Though I suppose most Koreans speak English anyway.

Or just go the way of google, translat eit into EVRYTHING. We NEED a klingon map making site.

Translators take time to make. I'm listing the languages in their order of importance. Is it really that big a deal if SEN is translated into Hawaiian?

SEN needs to be in German, have you seen breitzkreig.de? The world's finest modding site, methinks.

Hawaiian couldn't take THAT long, only 6 letters and a symbol.

Those translaters doesn't give a fluent translate.

Besides, it's funny when other people starts speaking in different languages.
The translater won't be that useful, some people in the specific language sure can't understand what you said because, on Spanish, some words are placed differently in the sentence from English even if the words have a same meaning as the other.

It wouldn't hurt to try. Besides, you could just use the Google translator on it and the new code would configure SEN to work with it.

It kinda works with BabelFish anyway. Translated to my native tongue (read, Portuguese) rather well, actually. wink.gif

I just can't say the same for sentence structuring, alas. tongue.gif
Side note: Since it's also a Latin language it has some similarities with Spanish n' French to only name a couple 'distant relatives').

I went around for a couple of minutes translating it into Spanish and I didn't run into any problems with the images. I'll look at it longer the next time I have some spare time, but it seems that Babelfish is superior to Google Translate in that respect.

Ya, I'm really losing support for google's translator.
(For some reason when I translated from english to german and then back again, it reformatted the site. blink.gif )
