Staredit Network -> Ideas -> Returning

Im returning from a long break from starcraft. I've always drifted around through the community such as PGT and GG and staredit, but since i've quit with gaming i've decided to try out map making serious. I have fooled around a little bit with the basics, tried making a few maps but i never really followed through.

My knowledge of terrain and triggers is low. What im asking is what kind of project should I start on first, such as defence or bounds. Also if anyone could give me some personally training that would be greatly appreciated, or help me personally with my map and work with me on what i should be doing, along with testing.

Personally, you don't need to start any large scale project, or a small scale project for that matter. Simply said, download the new editors and fiddle around with each of them and get accustomed to their settings. Once you feel you've picked the best one, just make a simple map, and do simple concepts until you get most of the ideas flowing. You don't need to complete a large scale map to gain knowledge. Look through the tutorials, do them, and ask yourself if you understand what they're doing and how to do it.

man looking through tutotial is so boring you kidding me. like if your new you wont even understand what there saying..

first off i think bounds might be little harder for new map makers
defence maps you might wanna make it good atleast or it looks just ugly and ppl will be like you suck and stuff

mass map are now just perfect

and if you just look through the new map makers is kinda boring also.. like if your not doing anything.. maybe if your making a map and wanna add some stuff to it you can do that on the way

not saying anything to ultimo but just saying its boring tongue.gif
btw its hard to get ideas of making map so go with mass wink.gif just for the start thats what i mean its sipmle and you learn fast

what about some kind of movie map, i wouldn't have to worry about releasesing it to the public or anything because it will probably just be for my clan.

Yeah sure, movie maps are fine too. They help you get your timing in sync with waits, and you need to test it alot to make sure it works. But it really doesn't matter what you make.

tutorials and testing, i hate those words, i wish u great map makers would make video tutorials for ppl

how to make video tutorials u ask, use this, HyperCam, just run it, press record then slowly do wat u would to do a task in staredit or watever program then submit the file and ppl can watch instead of read... and ill submit hypercam to the DLDB, i dont think its there
