Leonardo da Vinci Syndrome, (LDVS.) Is an affliction minly pertaining to HS' and incredibly creative people where your ideas come to you so fast and intrigue you so much that you cannot finish one project before moving on to the next.
I believe I suffer an extreme form of this, I can rarely get past working on a project for an hour. (Eg, Starcraft maps.) Before another idea hits me and I have to do something else.
Do you think you suffer from it? Is there some sort of cure? Post opinions.
i dont know if you can suffer from creativity, but i do have that problem where so many ideas come to me daily
i dont think i want to cure it, because without creativity, you are just too boring and not fun
Holy crap yes! Couldn't this also be called ADD?
I always just get random ideas then wander off and act on them. I don't think I've ever completed anything all at once.
I'm actually surfing about 3 pages of SEN at this very moment, and have 2 other sites open. Hail tabbed browsing.
Ach, I've definitely got this one. It derails my writing, mapping, and other projects more often than not. It's compounded by the fact that, knowing that I'm not going to finish, I don't even bother, anymore, to even start things. Just as bad, it often doesn't kick in until I start putting work into a project (if the reluctance to start caused by the previous problem can even
be overcome, which it usually can't)...so I'll kick an idea around, on and off, for a few weeks, then the moment I start trying to realize it, I won't be able to think about it anymore, or if I can think about it, then I'll get that only in exchange for the ability to actually work on it.
Cures?
1. Pick a small, manageable project, and do as much as you can for it in your initial frenzy of interest. Only pick a project that you are really sure you are interested in, so that the length of the frenzy is longer. Ideally, you would finish the project in one shot, but if you do not, spend only 5-10 minutes on it a day until it is either finished or you manage to get into another frenzy. It can take months to finish a project of minimal value using this method, but at least it's something.
2. If the project is something that you must get done, use sleep deprivation. Eventually, you will become tired enough that you're just not smart enough to think of other things anymore, and don't have the mental energy to change topics. This is not for "fun" projects, since at 5AM, sleep is more fun than pretty much anything. Also, you've got to be good enough to actually produce something decent while too tired to use most of your intellectual capacity. In desperate situations, extreme fear can keep you on a roll, and can even (perhaps) give you the edge you need to produce a superior product. While method #1 is good for fun, for work, one must do the opposite: put it off until you simply can't lose focus anymore, either because of sleepiness or fear. Note that neither of these strategies should be used by people who are capable of working normally.
Don't kid yourself, you just have a poor attention span.
Work on it.
I don't have LDVS. ADHD all the way!QUOTE

'
Argh! I hate sleep! No sleep for me! I would never sleep again except for the fact that you need it to survive.
I think, by nature, creative people are going to be insanely attracted to the map editor because they can create their own world within it. So almost everyone you find here is going to be like that for the same reasons.
Today I started 3 maps, worked on one I'm dedicated to, half finished a molokov coctail, sighed when I saw all the half finished models around ym room then slept.
I just never focus on things 100%. When I do work, I might go and do something else. When I am typing something I might just stop and come here to reply to a thing or two then go back to work. I don't have a lot of ideas, so I guess I don't suffer from this LDVS.
I have a mild case of it. I can finish a game/map if I have enough energy and excitement to do it. I never finished a full game and even websites. I never finished a SC map and things.
This time, I'm sure I'll finish Bound Selector.

ADHD!!

Oh yes, I was certainly afflicted by this as a teenager. But lemme tell ya, having a kid will make you get over it in a hurry. That was one of the HARDEST adjustments for me to make. Either I was too tired to work on something or I was pinned underneath my son and unable to get up and work on something. I don't have it so much anymore, as I can dedicate myself to 1 or 2 big projects over a long period of time.
I'm also not sure if you just naturally grow out of it at some point. I was kinda "forced" to grow up. Also, just because your head is flooded with ideas, doesn't mean they're all good. During my LDS days, I would only say about 5% of my ideas were - what I considered - good enough to show other people.

Your son is that fat?
Almost all of them are awsome like levitation devices, awsome cdoing ideas, revolutionary machines.
I think this syndrome thing your talking about might be another excuse for ADD or ADHD.

ROFL! No, you just have to lay there with the baby on top of you because if you try to get up, then he'll start wailing and you're back where you started.
Aw come on, it IS ADD... I think they call it LDVS to raise self-esteem or something. =/
Oh yes, you got me, since everything2.com is the holder of every true answer in life.
Well it's not the only place with pretty much the same definition, try searching for it.
I "suffer" from it. The way I got around it was, don't really plan out your projects too much. Just plan out the basics.

No, because I have both ADD and LDVS.

Nifty little trick I learned in Senior English on our Senior Projects. Helps with finding reliable sources.
Sorry Syphon, you've been had.

I "suffer" from this, also. It's called creativity. I would have a big idea in my head and I would start writting it and trying to develop it, then boom! Another one. Work on this for a couple of weeks and BOOM! Another one again.
Good thing I am out of High School so I can work on my MMORPG that I am going to make for my gaming company i'm going to make.
Gives me time to plan out the world without being sidtracked. But college... College is TeH sUxOrZ1!1!
Exactley, that's what leonardo da vinci syndrome is.
You jsut have a mild case.
Apperantly, you have failed to see the evidence that I have posted:

By just reading that, you can tell that they are an unreliable source.
Edit: Fixed the quote so it had the box.
Like I said, search for it. If worse comes to worse google it. There're more reliable sources out there.
