I'm just curious about which Smash Bros characters people use/favour.
You can use either the original charas, or Melee ones (for those players who loved Kirby in the first game, only to notice how much they 'downgraded' him in the second)
My favourite is Shiek (not Zelda, just Shiek). (S)he may not be very powerful (though some of her/his moves pack quite a punch) and (s)he may take hits really poorly, but she moves fast, and her attacks have high prority. Personally, I like to use her like quicksilver, flowing from kick to pucnh to grab/throw to dodge; controlling my oppoenents in a vicious smack-down!

I use Pikachu. Yeah, I hate pokemon, but I'm good with him.
Luigi is fun with his jump attack. I become the one move wonder and annihilate people with it because it makes a nice sound.
And Jigglypuff's secret sleeping move. That pwns all, if used properly.

As far as I know, Shiek is a female, so "male/female" is not necaserry...
As for the characters I'm best with...
Pikachu. I like to cheap@$$ with his bouncing-shock-attack-thing, which annoys the hell outa people, that and the thunder-bolt thing that SHOULD hurt him... because he's getting hit by lightning......
Fox. All those jumps and flips and stuff are insanely awesome. God, I play with him on the 1P modes and I get Berserk, Speed Demon, etc. all the time. + I love annoying the h3ll outa people with his frickin' fast laser >=D
Roy/The Guy Like Roy. Good enough speed, high-powered, decent enough maneuverability. Heh.
Shiek. Teleportation, a whip(I like CastleVania games =D) , throwing knivees, speed.

Link or Kirby for me. They both do an Infinite attack, so I use them to rack up my enimies %.

Yeah, but in the original Ocarina of Time, Shiek is referred to as a 'he', because people dont know that Shiek is Zelda; therefore Shiek is one or the other (depedning on your point of view).

I propose a character tourney to find out just which character is the most popular. We set up poll 'matches' between two characters at a time; the one with the most votes at the end of a certain period (say, two days) moves on.

I like dark samus or samus with the black suit.(Dark Samus is like the event with Dark Link, they are completely black. This can be obtained with the debug menu.).
And my favourite level to fight on would be um... one of the adventure stages.

Come to think of it, however, the reason I don't like Samus, is because I'm not good with long-range-slow-firing-powerful-slow characters like Samus.
I admit I'm not AS bad with her as Ganandorf(one of my half-bro's thought it said "Gandolf" LOLOL), Capt. Falcon, DK, or Bowser.
However, I cannot say anything about MewTwo or Mr.GameandWatch; my half-bro, who was the one borrowing the game, never unlocked them \=
And I sucked..... though, I didn't know how to unlock the last Event, even though 1-49 all had been beaten O.o

Am a fan of gandof, now i know he slow and can't jump, but his power is unmatchable, as for Mr. Game and Watch he just annoying with his pancake flipping attack and all his 2D moves

Never played Melee much :/
I planned to buy it, but I have no gammer friend to play with, so I guess it would be boring after 1 week of playing.
I used to be Fox-only on SSB though; he's incredibly fast and versatile; though not too powerful. The speed matches for his berserking nature hehe.

have to unlock all the characters for last events :/
mewtwo = play combined 20 hours of melee. Just leave it on over night and it is easy.
Mr. Game and Watch = unlcok every other character and beat target mode thing.

After you HAVE unlocked everything, buy an action replay and enter the debug code for ultra fun and more than 50 levels and new character colours as well as being able to be the same colour and character as other players so they look like clones.
You can also "spawn" monsters and targets in any stage.
You can pick characters like the master hand, crazy hand, popo, male wireframe, female wireframe, and the sandbag and be able to controll them all.
Be able to spawn any item and see pokemon that you can't normally use.
Be able to sort of 'change' levels like have a "low flying great fox" or make kraid in brinster depths disappear etc.
Change the size of your unit(it can get as small as this "o" on your tv and as big as twice the size of your tv)
Change damage/defence ratios.
Access different CPU scripts etc.
Access to every FMV scene and sounds that were not normally accessable.
Be able to rotate the camera, and controll it with zero restrictions.
Be able to start a game with 0 characters or all characters on the same team etc.
And there is MUCH MUCH MORE! BUY AN ACTION REPLAY TODAY! xD

I usually play Fox or Falcon, I like the faster chars. Marth is the best character though, better than Roy.

Marth is faster moving than Roy, but Roy is more poweful. Oh, and Roy has that absoluetly
