Has there ever been a map made that focuses entirely on a trainer and his pet? Multiplayer counts too, and i'm not talking about pokemon. I mean, a game where you get one pet that you can't control, but must teach as a trainer. You could have an observer and something like a barracks hotkeyed to serve out commands, and you could teach it tricks, train it, and all that good stuff. There'd be minigames too. You get the idea.

So do we have one of these already? If yes, show me please. If not, I've been wanting something to work on lately...

No, I've never seen a map like that. Though, it would be very interesting to see. But would your pet retain tricks taught, and how do you plan on doing that? Would it disobey if it wasn't loyal enough? O_O

Good ideas. I should use those. I've started on an experimental map right now. It's small, and only for the purpose of testing out how I'm gonna shape up this map. It's a good thing too. Most important lesson of map making that I've learned: Always make sure you can finish what you've started.

Anyway, I plan on making the pet an allied computer player. And as for disobedience... as of right now, it follows you straight off, but I'm thinking you can train obedience like this: 10 switches. 10 Levels(for example). Level 0 pet(odd, i know) will have them all set to random. Level 1 will have one that will Always be set. level 2 will have 2... anyway, more triggers will be made to work alongside these switches, and this will in turn, work out obedience through a random percentaged chance of how often the pet will listen to you. It's not a fully developed idea yet, as I'm working on this WHILE I do homework and chat on AIM.. -_-' but it should work out okay. I'm also thinking of an alternative vespene gas system, where obedience depends on gas. Each task could use up a different amount of gas, constantly. And as your creature raises in level, you will regenerate the gas more quickly. I think the vespene system is easier, but the switch system will have a higher quality if I can get it to work.

Now, as for the tricks themselves. Those, I haven't decided upon, but they will also have the same hotkey system(I'm using the 4 factory protoss buildings right now) the commands did, as they will come in the form of commands I guess. and I suppose it may also depend on what kind of pet you'd have. And i'm also not sure what theme i'll have the pets in. Regular life? SC? Fantasy? Tell me what you think. I think having SC pets would give it a nice touch, so i'm leaning towards that.

If you've got any suggestions, feel free to pitch in. For now, this will stay as an idea because nothings been decided and I don't even know if I'll follow through with it.

Such things, would you need to keep your pet alive, could you compete against other pets, could you and your pet do "quests" of some sort, would your pet be upgradable are things that come to mind. Really, you could try incoperating this into an RPG and it'd rock!

The RPG thing, if at all to be incorporated, would have to be in Open RPG format, else it wouldn't work... no plot involved, as you can see. Yes, there will be quests. I haven't thought about food... but I guess you could use minerals for that. If not minerals, than maybe you could buy seperate packs of crystals... as for upgrades.. that might be sorta difficult. Remember, your pet isn't under your control, he's a different player altogether that just happens to obey some of your commands. I might consider letting trainers pin their pets against each other in fights/competitions.

Also, note that trainers can't fight. All the combat that takes place in game will be done by pets. But the pets won't be limited to combat either, even though I'm sure it's what most of you would enjoy.. -_-'

Ultimo, you're coming up with good ideas. I can't really organize my thoughts on this project, so if there's anything else you wanna mention, PLEASE DO.

FallenDreamer blah just make pokemon tongue.gif but like a good one lol hahaha thats my only guess

or make zergling pet that sounds good..
and in the end make a ultra where its a over grown zergling

so base it in starcraft a town where they have zergling pets and they use zergling pets for race, battles, and pretty much a lot of stuff even like pet shows kinda i guess...

well and then you can make a whole little fun zergling pet rpg where you can breed your zergling pet and make it strong or soemthing... i donno it sounds like sims but like with a zergling pet...

ADDITION:
thats my idea tongue.gif

You could use mineral chunks to show obediance level like this

Disobey

Trigger
Players:
¤ All Players
Conditions:
¤ Player 1 brings 1 civ 2 location 'Do Backflip'
Actions:
¤ Kill 1 Trainer for player 1 anywhere

Obey

Trigger
Players:
¤ All Players
Conditions:[C]Player 1 brings 1 civ 2 location 'Do Backflip'
[C]Player 8 commands 6 Mineral Chunks at location 'Obediance watcher'
Actions:
¤ Gain 5 Skill Points

You could do something like that to make a obediance system for a pet game or you could do something else

Actually, I was thinking of doing something similiar to that, but instead using the gas counter for obedience... it'd be simpler.. I also had a seperate idea involving a bunch of switches that would be set to random if the pet wasn't at that obedience level yet. Like, lets say the pet is at obedience level 4 out of 10. 4 Switches would be set, and 6 would be random. Any action requiring 3 Set switches would work, but any action requirinig 7 set switches *might* work. Get it? It's not as easy but I think it has a higher quality, and i'll try to use it instead. If not, i'll go with your idea or my vespene idea.

actually, ive seen a game like this, it was a tamogochi type game, u chose ur pet, it grew, u had to clean up after it, by it food, u had limited income that slowly regenerated over time, plus u could teach tricks, and i guess it just set switches or the like, but nvr lost them,, there was a hanful of minigames, but i havnt seen it anywhere since v1.05 of b.net, someone must hav it... huh.gif

About those Zergling pets...

...I had an idea for a strange map a while back. It would take place on a remote Terran planet where there wasn't even any news of the Brood Wars, EVER. A Zergling lands there, and people don't know what it is. The Zergling, bio-engineered by Terran scientists to think, talk, and KILL, learns over time that others like him roam free in the lands...to get eaten by the hick inhabitiants later on. So he goes out to figure out who he is, and when he realizes it, he gains the ability to control other Zerg like a Cerebrate, while evading the Overmind's grasp.

So, if you had it on a desolate Terran planet where Zerg were bioengineered and not even the Overmind knew where the planet was, it could work...

You should make it so that you need to feed your pet and if you "care" for it like pet it give it treats it becomes more obidient to you.
