Staredit Network -> SEN v5 Alpha -> Explaination of some workings in senv5

Due to some things discussed awhile ago with yoshi, I came up with this idea:

New members start with 0 admin karma.
People with under 5 admin karma get their posts put into mod preview mode.
Each post accepted while under 5 admin karma adds one karma to their count.

This basically means, a new member will have to write 5 posts that are accepted before they can post directly on the forums. It's supposed to cut down on people who come on here just to flame or what not. As far as work load goes with mods/globals/admins, accepting posts would simply mean checking them off in the modcp (you will not have to go hunting for them every couple hours). Any opinions?

So with this, I made a hack page to give you the ability to set you karma as you wish. In this hack page, you also have the ability to set your mineral count to test various other things, for example, using minerals to use post icons.

I just want to say one thing about this hack page, do NOT directly edit the links. I do not want to see anyone running around with 999,999,999,999 minerals. I'll ban you from senv4 and v5 if you do this.
Setting yourself up as mod or global will not work yet, ONLY minerals and karma. I'm not completely done with everything surrounding the forums, so, preview mod while having under 5 karma will not work YET... but soon.

Again, do not edit these links.

Another thing, soon enough I will be ripping apart senv5 piece by piece to make it more solid as skinable code. Iceflare has made a completely new skin and it's really starting to look hot...

It will be a non-liquid skin and mostly designed for 1024x resolution.

So, when that starts to happen, senv5 will be a big mess.

i dont exactly see how it would help...
because i dont come here as much as i probably should, i guess i dont see how many people just sign up to spam a few posts then leave.

mind giving me an overview of how many times that's happend?

Really don't know... but that was the best idea out of the whole topic...
Here's the topic: http://www.staredit.net/index.php?showtopic=16850
I moved it to this forum so all could see it...

I don't mind discussing the necessity of this idea again... moose? bolt? any further opinions?

How many posts are there from members with less than 5 posts each day?

I think it's a great idea but it'd suck if there weren't any mods around while you were posting and you wait like 4 hours before your post gets accepted.

that gives me an idea to keep the sites userlist clean

how about we put a disclamer for people who sign up, that says people with less than 15 posts, and are inactive for 2 months, will be deleted. that way, those people who just sign up to post one thing then leave, dont waste valuable space on SEN's database

Permissions should be working alright... like for the staff forum...:

ADDITION:
Another "working" of senv5 has to deal with the whole buisness of moderation...
As I've stated before, there is no warnings, only logs of moderation actions. There is one complication I came across:

If a mod edits a person's post to edit out the flames or what not, it would generate a notice for that user that their post was edited, show the original post, and give them the option to challenge it. Okay.
Now, a mod can edit a post without adding it to the user's logs by giving his edit reason an opinionated level of severity for why they had to edit the post.
So, if a edit post has any level of severity, the post was already dealt with, I find it necessary to lock that post from being edited again, by the user or a mod. So, basically, a mod gets one shot to do it "right".

Anyone see any problems with this?

If we have good mods, there won't be a problem at all. In other words, I think it's fine tongue.gif

Those silly little mistakes you make could be embarrassing. blushing.gif

ADDITION:
Is the Verified Map Maker concept going to be incorperated?

I dunno, I'll see if I ever get around to the DLDB... ;o
It probably will and will be very simple... just a little list of who automatically gets approved, like having admin karma +5 automatically approves your posts. I'll probably make it so only the head DLDB maintain this list.

Yeah, that's really simple to maintain. Not like there'd be all that many people on the list in the first place.
