Staredit Network -> Games -> Shadow of the Colossus

A new PS2 game that came out a few days ago. It's a simple puzzle game where you basically just defeat 16 colossi. All you get is a sword and bow/arrows and to defeat them you must find their weak point and attack it. But here's the thing, they tower over you (after all, they are colossi). So a portion of the game is finding them, another portion is finding their weaknesses, and then the probably longest is climbing to and attacking their weakness. It's a lot like a puzzle game in that sense.

I've defeated 4 bosses as of making this post and I must say I love it so far. It's pretty easy but it's a lot of fun.

There are no real movies in the game, every one of those trailers is pretty much how it looks when you're playing it (except lower resolution).

Anyway, this is the best game I've played in a while, I highly suggest it to ... anyone really.

I was gonna buy this, but it was a choice between FF7 and this, so i chose FF7. I'm buying this later.

Ah, if only games like this and ICO would come to the cube... This game really makes me want to buy a PS2, along with Soul Calibur III.

It's a game that uses so much artistic brilliance. The game lets you focus on what's at hand, instead of checking distracting gauges, ammo counts or meters that pollute your screen.

Sigh

Yeah, Ico was really an art, almost like LoH. They should have more of this genre, and expand it to other systems, even comp (Damn, I hate takin out my PS2 just to play a frickin game)

Dude, Playstation exists for kickass games like this. What's LoH?

Anyway, another thing I've noticed is the gameplay is absolutely solid. I can't find too many bad parts of the control system in this game that would make it less fun to play. It's really smooth and easy to control.

My brother showed me the trailer and screenshots, looked kick ass. I'll have to buy the game soon. I told my friend to buy it, as I always recommend him games (DMC3, God of War and now Shadow of Colossus). He says it's great and he's already defeated 4 of them. yawn.gif Must...come over and play!

Yeah I have to say I thought the game was going to suck ever since they mentioned it, I didn't know why everyone liked it. It's ok but I'll never buy it, you beat 4 bosses already (Not knowing how long you've played but it seems like a short time for some reason) and it's "easy" All you do is fight 16 bosses... Nothing else. Well there's always traveling around an open field for 20 minutes or so. I would probably like it if I tried it, but I'm betting it'll take around 10 hours to beat.
If only it was longer some how, or had a really fun replay value.

The bosses get harder, the first few were easy as hell but when they started shooting stuff at you is when it started getting hard. It's not ment to be an action game really, so I don't see why you wouldn't get it for the short gameplay time, there will always be time-trial mode and hard modes that you can unlock to play again and unlock new stuff. Besides that the game is just plain fun, I can easily see myself playing it over and over again months from now (not continuous of course) like I sometimes do with my other games.

Dude, Golden-Fist, tehre can't be a good PS2 exclusive for u. Ever. MAYBE if it was brought to Xbox... This game got 9.5/10 for lasting appeal in IGN and San Andreas got 10. Not much difference...

He hasn't even played it, he can't have an opinion.

I don't have much of my own opion. But most of these games that are normally "Awesome Replay Value" never really work out for me for instance:
God of War, Mercenaries, Max Payne and Far Cry. Yeah these were all cool the first time around (Or half way through for Mercenaries and Far Cry) but there was no point going back to them. They say that the game is "Creative" I really don't see how it can be creative with the way they describe it:
"There are certain weak points on the colssi, you hold up your sword to find them, then you find a way to hit it, with a bow, sword or another method"
Wow... that sounds, thrilling. I'm sure it's more creative then that but it's really not doing anything for me. I might rent it after I gain up 8 more dollars after buying two other games. ALso you should listen to chu, I haven't played it so don't get pissed off at me, it's from spectators view.

The whole point of the game isn't to find creative ways to kill your opponents, its to find out where to attack them and find out how to do that. It's a puzzle game, not an action game.
