Staredit Network -> Games -> How is Doom the game tie in with Doom the movie?

If you watched the movie, you know it didn't live up to the hype. The first person view thing, wasn't as good as I thought. It was more like a walk through for the game. Their was no storyline/plot that deals with Hell. The story sucked basicly. Did you think it lived up to the hype?

What hype? I knew it was going to be a horrible movie from the start. As soon as I heard that Hell wasn't involved, I just ignored it.

The trailer with surround sound and booming gunshots scared the hell out of me. It actually looked half-decent. I think it was obvious there was No Hell in the movie...

The game developers did that to the game and movie, not the movie industry.

The reasons why they couldn't make hell is the special effect probably. The Background, the realism, the monsters, etc.

It is. I liked it, it wasn't an epic, if you expect too much or too little you'll be over grading it and comparing it to great movies and if you under grade it you'll think of only the bad parts (Like the last 20 minutes) The rest of the movie is great. I would say 4 stars but the ending is REALLY screwed up, so 3 stars.

You obviously never heard of or saw Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.

http://imdb.com/title/tt0346156/

The movie's background and effects were entirely done in CG.

For some reason, I don't like that movie, was the background from hell? No.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by chuiu on 2005-10-26 at 20:43:03
What relevance does that have to whether or not they could have made a hell based Doom movie?
Report, edit, etc...Posted by KrAzY on 2005-10-26 at 20:59:51
Here can be another reason that the game and the movie is seperated, the guy who is on solo or on two man co-op places goes on with his part of story and did not rescue anybody and did went to Hell and back, then to the tunnels in Mars to Hell again with the Huge Demon Boss that you have to kill with a Soul Cube or all of your weapons against.

For the Doom Movie, they just came with a group of people, Dwayne could've been a different Sarge than Sargent Kelly. And remember on the first levels on Doom 3, there are some background noises which sounded like the movie. On the expansion, you control Sarge than a Private from Doom 3.

Whats funny is that after I watched this I went to go watch Wallace and Grumet Curse of the Ware Rabbit. lol

Well, from interviews I heard that their wil be the same sound/audio effects from Doom 3 and their was, just not much that I heard. Just a little side note.

The movie was a BIG meh.

The fight scene at the end...was pretty unneccessary. The first person view was a pretty good first for the movie industry. The ending plain sucked. The scripting could've been better, and there was an attempt to go for humor, which failed.

Sky Captain and The World of Tomorrow had pretty good effects, why can't Doom?
They should've just canceled the movie once they decided they weren't going to have hell in it.Thats the most stupid thing I've ever heard of, the whole story of the game of Doom involves hell.A movie is supposed to be like a book, it is supposed to put in detail how the everything ties together. To make it easy for someone to understand what the game is really based off, and in so I think that for people who have never played Doom but watched the movie will think twice about buying or renting the game. For people that don't understand gaming storylines, movies are the best if they ever come out based on a game. Obviously everyone here would've prefered to just play the game than waste $5.00 bucks watching the move at your local cinema. So back to the point of my response, no hell, there should NOT be a movie, plain and simple. It totally disgraced Doom and all it's fame.

I seriously don't expect ANY movie based off of a video game to do well. Reasons being A), video game storylines focus more on the player's involvement,

and B) most games last longer than a few hours, causing major parts to be cut.

This isn't the only Video game movie that did this. Mortal Kombat...ESPECIALLY The Mario Brothers...They should've had the developers from iD to look over the movie while it was in production.

For the Halo movie I'm glad that Bungie is watching over the movie production, with Peter Jackson and his Weta Team. So theirs some high chance that it would be better then the others.

Sweet , there is going to be a Halo movie? Not just Red vs. Blue?
That'd be so sweet... Question: isn't Halo 3 going to be the last of the series?

For the last time, at the first Doom Levels, there are some background noises which maybe sounded like the Movie but not sure. On Doom 3, you don't come in Mars with a group of people, you came by yourself or a friend in co-op. The Rock is probably not Sargeant Kelly, because he was evacuated to Earth.

Here's another reason that hell can't be made for some reason, Doom the Movie was made in Universal, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (Can't it just be Sky Captain only? =/ ) was made in Paramount, they probably have different programs and different devices to work on movies. I'm not sure about King Kong by Peter Jackson in Universal Studios would have background effect, nor the Halo Movie would have a background, then that would be pathetic. I think they don't want hell because there are a lot of baby demons, rotten type zombies, the soul thing that teleports you, some effect trapping the charactor after teleporting and move like a elevator, the big demons that shoots blue balls, the scene where you go to hell, the bosses you fight, the part when lava goes solid, going to back to Mars, going to some tunnels to hell... etc.

They're probably going to take a lot of takes and actions in Hell, but is Hell was every suspected to see? On Doom 3, theres only 3 to 4 levels in Hell which is pretty long. What about the rest other than Hell? Rating it 0 for having no hell is dumb. For some people who said Halo Movie will die also, it'll be made by the same company Universal Studios, other than that, the producer is Peter Jackson this time, King Kong will become a Game based on the movie which is also Peter Jackson's production diary. If the guns from Doom, they probably can do the same on Halo, the Plasma Gun from doom can easily be a plasma grenade or Plasma rifle in Halo, they probably have good ratings in the future or not because they didn't include Halo 2 or 3, but they will this time. No, I'm not changing the subject, I'm comparing.

Well, we don't know for sure. What can be certain is what his WETA team can do.
