Staredit Network -> UMS Showcase -> My First True Map

I've created my share of awful, useless... censored.gif ty maps. But there is hope! I and my team of collaboraters have started making an RPG map.

Clan 345's
Suits of Armor

It's only a beta name, but the map itself is working pretty well. It's a decent sized single player RPG, desert terrain, the sorts. This game has you running around a mining colony for 3 days trying to escape from the planet you're on. But it's not escaping from evil tyrants, or aliens, or some masked stalker, but you're escaping for getting off the damned planet you're on. This game has food items, so you don't die of my unique hunger and thirst meters, and triggers that have to do with what time it is in the game. Yeah. It has events that can only happen on certain days in the game, and only if you completed a previous event the earlier day, and it includes unleashing an entire army into the town to exterminate...pests to say the least. Being my first big project, it seems perfect. Eh, well, I'll continue to make the map until it finishes, or until my computer crashes!

"After 5 failures and dumped projects"? You dont sound too confident wink.gif

Usually multiplayer RPGs are more fun, but your concept sounds pretty fun. Can we see some screeshots?

This sounds like a cool idea, most RPG is to destroy "The Great Evil" or something, but this one has more of a twist in that you trying to get away.

What do your "unique food and water meters" look like?

What do your "unique food and water meters" look like?

Basically they are mineral and vespene that lower over time and raise if you "consume" items. There is also a bathroom meter that fills over time, if it goes over ten points your bladder explodes and you die...
No screenshots at the moment, but I have all the triggers and ideas either in my head or on paper. I have the map's layout halfway done, so it should come out fine once I get this damned thing to work correctly...and once I get my graph paper back with the drawn map layout...

Food, Water, and Bladder meters are also in Life of a Civilian, before you start putting "unique" in there. Then again, those were just units, and they decreased at the same rate. Pretty crappy, there. Hopefully you can do better. tongue.gif

Maybe have a random generator trigger to determine the loss of minerals/gas, including maybe units you come into contact, location you are in, and the time of day?

Ah, bastards! Why must it be so that when I think of an idea someone already has it? Ah well, I also have "laxative water"...5 points towards bladder explosion...um, I'm stretching the mold here, 72 switches taken up by hours of each day...unlike regular RPGs, you get a weak unit just like the other men that die in 3 shots. Oh yeah, this is the type where you run and hide instead of standing up and fighting...this will have a second character in his own map who is the RPG steriotype character...he uses the ammo system from a tutorial on this site...posting more when I get the chance...

72 Switches for time of day?
No countdown timer?
Can't use death counts?

I can't see how something like switches would be good for a time of day function. :/

Um...countdown timer, yes...switches are to trigger daily events...scary, I know...every minute is an hour in this game...ya know?

Spooky.
But as a side note, I like eggs... tongue.gif
