I have recently discovered one thing:
I am in a death spiral. It's high school now, the grades count. Yet I still don't care, because as long as I know everything, what does it matter if I do the work?
But I know this is wrong! I should have perfect grades with my intelect!

I need motivation, and I ask you for suggestions.

Please note, this is an attempt to be serious, which is why it is not in null. If you have nothing more to contribute than some smart-ass comment like 'DRUGS!!', then don't reply. Simple as that.

I had a similar problem... do you have a specific college you want to go in? I try to remain motivated and get good grades because I want to make it into MIT when I graduate. unsure.gif

omg......this reminds me when i had that one "bad night".... i kept thinking that there is no point in doing anything......but if it's motivation you need, then just remember that it will all pay off in the end (after college)

You worry too much, just try your best and don't get obsessed with marks. They aren't everything, you shouldn't be staying up till 4 AM studying.

Make friends with some smart people and then try to beat them.

I really don't care that much either but I still get that guilty feeling when I don't do my homework blushing.gif

Thats your problem there.

Actually I have quite a similar problem as you. I know the material before its handed to me. I've simply accepted the fact that I'll just do the work for now and get decent grades.
Take harder classes, I took senior classes as a freshmen, now I'm taking three college classes. Except for some reason I'm still in functions. it makes me angry, because I knew the concepts behind what I'm learning in that class since middle school. (Math is my specialty, yet it's academically my worst subject, figures.)

I suppose the best help I can offer is to find some area of school that you can appreciate no matter what. (For instance I'm in love with science, so I currently have 8 credits in science fields)

Unless you want to get into a special school or something, just get c's or b's then go to a commuinty college to get all your general education done for college (tis cheaper).

Hmm... I wish I had some help for you. I suffered from a similar predicament when I was in high school. However, my son was born at the beginning of my senior year, and all of the legal battles began shortly afterwards. I buried myself in my schoolwork so I could do something productive and take my mind off of the other stuff. I ended up graduating valedictorian in high school because of that. But that's what happened to me. Sorry I don't have a solid answer for you. I guess you could find a junkie to knock up and maybe that would change things for you... although I don't recommend it.

If you want to sleep in class, so be it. Just make sure you do your work and give it all on anything that's graded. Sad but true, that's the way the system is set up.

Yeah, if you know it, see if you can get transfered to a higher level class. I did that this year, as I can't TAKE the slow learning of the 'academic', or suposedly regular people. They take class time with the teachers attention, and we never learn anything. I've learned more math in physics than Algebra II. Sad, but true.

Enough of my rant. Find some really smart people and compete, I did that in 8th grade, and passed that year with my highest english mark yet.

English blows my hoes. I already know how to read write and speak english. so why the hell do we need to take it over our entire educational carreer? TO PISS US OFF!
was this off subject?

anyway yeah i sleep tru class and i get good grades. the teacher spends 5 minutes telling you actually how to do it and the other 55 minutes goes to actually doing it. witch is very dumb. we come to school to learn not work.
Report, edit, etc...Posted by Kow on 2005-11-10 at 18:14:58
You don't understand. Most people can't learn from just hearing, they must do it to comprehend. You musn't be in very high level classes if you think that work isn't learning. You learn to work, how else will you make money in the real world?

All my classes are with smart people, damn International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

I still find myself getting less than satisfactory marks though, mainly because I joke WAY too much in class and have a problem doing anything seriously.

Well that and I rush through all my work. Today when we had a math test that no one completed the teacher was shocked that me out of all of them didn't complete it either.

Ah, motivation. I have a 3.94 GPA for the first marking period (about 97% in every class) but I still feel extremely lazy to do my work. I do homework in homeroom and mostly never at home (except for projects) and don't feel greatly motivated in school. I have some motivation though. In Driver's Ed class, our teacher is someone you can really get along with and that gets me going. I find that humor stimulates the learning behavior. The drivers education teacher will tell us humorous stories once in a while about driving with students and some mistakes they make. That helps us learn and also makes us laugh a little.

Is it the teachers? Are they all, well, 'evil?' If you don't get along with any teachers then you pretty much will mostlikely do bad.

The problems where motivation stabs me in the back is exercize. I am trying to get in shape for volleyball season here (cause pre-season is a 'female dog') and the exercizes I'm doing are running, sit-ups, and push-ups. I actually haven't started the running part which was due about, a month ago. I hate running and I always put it off. "No worries, I'll just run tomorrrow." Then the next day, "Eh, I can skip a day, tomorrow I'll run." The sit-ups I do with an 'ab-roller' so it's mainly easy. I do about 200 a night. Push-ups are killer, 10 and I'm out. I do the situps about 4 times a week, but they needs to be 5-7 days.

Motivation is an extremely difficult thing to work with. As I said earlier, in the problems you are going through, school-work, might have to do with people in your class and your teacher.

Yeah, I find it hard to motiavte myself to exercise, but I still manage to force myself to do so. I get in about an hour of running a day, weight training and about 2-3 hours of basketball.

I partied all through high school and took advanced courses. I didn't get great marks but I mean the required entrance for the things I wanna take in university. I only failed one thing, which was because I missed alot of class time skipping. It was funny when I got my senior year attendance back, I missed 48 days total.

Have your parents beat you for getting bad grades(Might I add the worse the beating the better)
Okay seriously... if you already know the stuff, just do the work, participate in class, and get good grades.
I can sort of relate to you on a smaller scale...
I'm a freshman in Highschool.
I sort of neglected middleschool because I know once I'm getting all A's in highschool, they won't have to think twice on moving me up to honor classes. I'm going to take a summer course for Algebra II, and probably Spanish II. I know everything in the classes I take. The classes I am in are filled with people like.
"WTF WHO CARES ABOUT SCHOOL LETS JUST TALKA BOUT HOW GUD WE r AT BESKETBALL ND SM0KE W33D"
They are usually in awe whenever I answer a question or something. Anyway, since this whole story is jumbled up I'll get to the point.
My motivation was being smart, showing off my intelligence, so hopfully I can have a better life.

Yeah, but I'd rather be living nicely being rich because I got a decent education than living wildly scalping money from passer by's.
