Raptor: Call of the Shadows

Raptor: Call of the Shadows is a map based on the old arcade game, like Raiden or Tyrian. It is still a little buggy and I will probably update this page a bit. It is made to be just like the game with a scrolling screen and all.

Specifications

-Players
•It is a one player map but must be played on B.Net or else the center screen screws up the cursor.

-Map tileset
•The tileset is jungle, and there are 4 levels.

-Map size
•The map size is 96x256, it contains 4 levels and they are made as long as the map permits.

-The Game
In Raptor, you control a wraith that rapidly fires out interceptors heading straight up (Or many more different things and directions after your visit to the shop) The goal is to kill as many enemies as you can on the level for money, and then survive the boss fight. It uses a virtual hp system, even for the enemies (Small ships will have less than big ships which will have less than you who will have much less than the bosses, etc.) After each level you go into the shop and spend your hard earned cash on 14 unique weapons and special options, some even upgradable.

Details

Buyables

Machine Gun:  Fires interceptors at a very high rate that do 1 damage each to enemies and bosses. They move to the top of the screen and you start with level 1 interceptors. Speedups can be bought to make it shoot faster. The autotrack minigun also provides a great enhancement.

•Missiles:  Fires missiles at a medium rate which do 12 damage per hit to enemies and bosses. They move to the top of the screen and can be found on level one. Speedups make them shoot twice as fast and they are a primary weapon, meaning they replcae other primary weapons.

•Pulse Cannon:  Fires shuttles at a very high rate which do 7 damage per hit. They move to the top of the screen and are a primary weapon.

•Blade Gun: Fires blades at a medium rate which do 14 damage per hit to enemies and bosses. It shoots 3 blades at a time which go to the top, top left, and top right of the screen. They are a primary weapon.

•Autotrack Minigun: As a primary weapon, it makes all inteceptors home in on enemy ships and track them down. It is excellent for getting a lot of money.

•Cluster Bomb: Fires a science vessel to the top of the screen which explodes sending 15 scourges randomly flying everywhere. It is a primary weapon.

•Flamethrower: Fires quick very high damage sets of 4 scourges which explode just in front of your raptor.

•Supercharge: After hotkeying a barracks and using 2F1, it makes your Raptor invincible to all attacks for 20 seconds. Does not prevent damage from crashing into bosses.

•Megabomb: After hotkeying a barracks and using 2m1, it makes a large explosion that kills all enemy ships on the screen and does 100 damage to bosses.

•Energy Capsule: Recharges 25 health, will not go over 100. If bought with 95 health or more, there is a 90% discount.

•Supershield: Acts as a very useful second life. When your Raptor runs out of health instead of beginning the death sequence (Which is very awesome) and exploding, it simply returns you to 100 health and uses up the supershield. You start with 3 of these.

•Satellite Raider: Follows your ship firing extra bullets and missiles. Along with full speed bullets and full speed missiles this can be the finishing touch to an excellent combo.

•Satellite Comet: Follows your ship firing Fireballs (Scourges) much like the flamethrowers'.

-Story
•The game does not provide much story, but you play as a legendary pilot for a Raptor jet. You work for the MegaCorps and are in charge of destroying its enemies. The main goal for the first sector (Which is all the map goes through) is to destroy the Lithos Petrolium Oil Rig.

-Cool stuff map has

Explanatory briefing
Scrolling screen

I'm just mad that I wasted all my money on a crappy Pulse Cannon.

Should have gone for the spread of Minirockets.

ADDITION:
Sorry, I'm not talking about the map. I'm talking about the last time I played Raptor.

Hmm, played the map, it was really cluttered, terrain was blocky etc... It would really benefit from a better purchasing system and better explanations of how your weapons worked, I was confused for most of the map. That being said, it WAS very fun to blast everything on the screen with interceptors. The concept is good, and the execution is generally good, except for the bosses and shop.
Overall, 7/10

I haven't tried it yet. Maybe next time you could provide some screenshots?

Fixing the money costs would be a good idea... the costs for the weapons were really, really strange. Limit the amount of cash you get...

Also, after the second level I got a bunch of unit unplacable errors, then I lost.

I'd imagine he stuck with the original costs of everything.

After DLing and playing the actual game, I can say yes, he did stick to the orignal costs. However, it still seems akward to me. Maybe cut off a few zeros or something.

I played the map, and have a problem with it.

Would it kill you to give a little more control to the player? My cursor was being forced into the center.

My cursor was being forced into the center.

That's cause you were playing on single player. Center screen doesnt work in single player. Make a private bnet game and it'll work.

And to shatter, I just fixed your problem when i remade my first post. The buyables now come with a more brief description of exactly what the weapon does.
