Try closing every windows component that isn't vital to operation then delete it.

Try opening it in Notepad and deleting everything and saving. if it lets you save, then you can delete it. if not, do one of the beloe steps.

Try restarting your computer in Safe Mode which should allow you to delete anything. You could also Go to Task Manager > Processes > and End explorer.exe. The screen will lose everything but the background. Go to File > New Task > and type explorer.exe. Everything should return to normal (unless you had a file open you had yet to save or move the desktop icons around ebfore doing this) and you should be able to delete it. Rerunning explorer.exe is more drastic than using Safe Mode, but it should work fine and you won't have to restart it in Normal Mode.

If you right click on the file and the option to Delete simply doesn't exist, then I have no idea how to get rid of it, I have something like that on my desktop. I could get rid of everything from the program except for the bloody desktop icon, :\

When starting, mash the F8 button. That should get you in safe mode.

Why do you need it deleted? What harm is it causing? Your system acts as if it is important, but it could be otherwise.

I didn't test this, but this might help: http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/SDelete.html If you download the thing at the bottom and use it, might work, eh. I didn't try it first so any harm done to your computer is not my fault..
