God dammit my scm to jpeg thing keeps screwing up, so the image I put up will be a little bit farked up. If someone else would try to make it into a jpeg I'd appreciate it.

Edit: Okay I can see what it damaged, basically it just took away the minerals. The bases work like this, mains have 8 mins 1 gas. By the ramps there is a nat with 6 mins 1 gas. The top and bottom islands each have 8 mins and 1 gas. The middle island has 12 mins and 2 gas. Then on each side left and right there's a mineral only with 8 mins each. On the top and bottom there is a gas only..

As Valug would say, it looks ugly. Try to make the terrain look more pleasing to the eye.. add doodads, more variety of terrain, maybe some random pieces of terrain & doodads within the water. Makes it alot more desirable to play, after all.

Otherwise, looks pretty good. Maybe adding a a few more expos would be better though, as theres not very much to rely on within the map in a 2v2.

Ah thanks, I do tend to make maps a little too ugly :-\, not very artistic. The islands are pretty good expos, especially if you can control the middle one. 12 mins and 2 gas. Almost like a money map, should be very desirable. I'll try to find a place to fit some more min onlys in, sound good?

Well, might be a bit big for 1v1/2v2 map. A lot of walking to reach another base. And, like volcove said, maybe try to make it look more appealing to the eye. smile.gif

Oh, and the image is probably a bit weird because of something you did with another editor maybe.

A money map would have around 500 minerals stacked on each other, as well as like 10 infinite geysirs. Which is incredibly lame <_<

You dont have to be artistic to make a map look pretty. I am a horrible artist and can make maps look decent. Anyways, on to the map itself. That giant lake in the middle isnt a very good idea. Having paths like that make very long walks, and having 2 unconnected entirely seperated by a massive body of water just kind of sucks. Also, the bases, especially the nats, are uneven. Also restating the fact that this map is HUGE. And this map is just kind of boring, nothing special or cool about it.

Damn... So maybe 128 x 128 for a four person map? Also not saying you're wrong, but what's wrong with a middle lake?

Looks like you terribly modified Incubus to make it your own.

Its....
-ugly.
-too Wide.
-unbalanced.
-obvious you put 5 minutes into this.
-not a good map or an improvement on your last.

Suggestions:
-Play melee and understand it before you make maps.
-Put effort into your maps.
-Look at the thread from Entropy which is pinned in one of the melee forums.
-Look at various maps on other sites (user made and pro).
-Check out broodwarmaps.net
-Try again in a month after doing all of the following

Dammit, I did not put 5 minutes into this. I put like 30. I'm trying to find the balance between too wide and too thin. What's a good average amount of squares? I read Entropy's thread. I have checked out broodwarmaps.net. I do put effort into my maps. I do play melee and I do understand it. I suppose I could just be one of those people not cut out for it. Anyhow thanks Yenku.

Honestly, your map looks like you put no effort into it. Your using no creativity or putting any effort in to making it look good. By the way, 30 minutes is nothing, and it doesnt even look like you spent that. I'd say it takes about 1-2 hours to lay out a good rough draft, and then more time for additional corrections and even more for fine-tuning and making it look better.

Listen I didn't mean to offend you.
But I think making quality maps just requires a bit more time, in both making it and studying other maps.

Yenku actually that time you didn't offend me, I appreciate the advice, but I think I'm beginning to realize you might have been right about me not being cut out to make melee maps, I just wasn't ready to hear it then.

But, thats the thing, I think I was kinda wrong about what I said. Its just that if you want to be good, its going to take a considerate amount of effort, and I know you think your doing it, but its more than what you think. Don't just give up unless you really don't want to bother trying to learn how.

I'm going to put it on pause instead, then try to learn later, when I have more freetime. smile.gif, I think that I will be able to learn, but it will take a considerably higher amount of effort from me to do it.
