Hello.. I didn't give the thread a name because the map really doesn't have a name. I am making an all-purpose clan recruitment map with bounds and stuff as well as melee, and for the melee part I created a 3v3 area. Please disregard all open space on the left side, that will have other stuff there.

Even though I would just finalize it and call it a day right now, after looking at the map, I think that it needs some serious work done to it. It is the top 3 start locations vs the bottom 3 start locations.. if anyone has some advice to make this map more fun or more balanced, I am very open to suggestions.

Well, the space throughout the melee area is kinda cloistered, so a protoss player might have a hard time moving around, and there is a lack of tankable expos. Have some ledges behind them or some for drops.

Red's base seems a little bigger...

Tankable outposts = bad -_-

Perhaps the main bases arne't big enough. Tanks can pretty much hit anything inside the base to to its size, so maybe make bigger main bases if you can. Other then that, looks good.

I made a few edits.. specifically, making the bases bigger by expanding into the water for the top and bottom and expanding into the insides for the 4 corners, therefore getting rid of a wall and opening that up a little. Which one do you think is better, the old version or this version?

I still cant imagine playing on this map, those mains are so tiny.

The main bases are so tiny that you couldn't build much in your base, and you would have to expand immediately before the enemy does. so basically spread the bases out, and if you do that, it should be about perfect. goodluck with this map!

Terran map.
Small mains is a bit annoying, but the expos are way too easy for T to protect. Open it up a bit, add scattered min only expos, since its a 6 player map..

You got the right idea down.

I plan on simply kind of "restarting" over on the left side of the map since I have so much room there, yet no room in the actual map... then I can just expand all my edits into what I already have. It seems as though that would be the solution for this compactness problem of the actual middles and the base sizes. Also, this would center it on the minimap, and all that other nice stuff.

So, it may be a while until the next time I update, probably over the weekend sometime.. but thanks for all the imput! I appreciate it.

Also, it officially has a name now: Heaven's Gates. Does anyone know if that name is taken? smile.gif


EDIT: I do have one question, now, re-reading what Yenku said. When you suggest adding scattered min-only expos.. what do you mean by that, necessarily?

Right now I have 6 bases (8 mins each) with 6 naturals that all have gas (and 6 mins each), and then there are 6 more min-only expos and the 2 gas expos in the middle, creating a total of 14 expos. Should I add more, considering that I want this map mainly to be used for 3v3 games? Or were you suggesting that I focus on making the min-only expos I have right now more scattered?

* Make a brush of the entire map
* Open your own map
* Paste the brush

Maybe he wants to use his own map... I like it, but yeah it's very cluttered, I'm pretty bad with that stuff, but I can see that.

I am creating this map into a melee map as well, not just for use in my recruitment map. So ya; give me advice on how to improve the melee aspect of the map, as I am quite new to melee mapmaking, but please do not give me advice what I should do as far as what I will do for my recruitment map. The recruitment map is Use Map Settings, whereas the maps I posted here are melee, and I am quite set on my plans for the UMS map I am creating.

Personally, if I was being recruited into a clan, I would far prefer a map that was half as good and made by a clan member than a map that was all out pro and made by someone else. I mentioned that the left area was for "other stuff," which in reality will be bounding obstacles. The fact that I am adding a bound section into my map tells you in itself that I am not recruiting the best of the best meleers, but simply people who know what they are doing and are fun to be around and play with. I had not mentioned it was bounds using that space, but I would not leave that much room for judges to have a bunch of stupid buildings and units, so even if it wasn't bounds it would be something with value not related to melee.

Sorry if I insult you, but your post was rather insulting, especially considering the fact you didn't even take the time to get a link to an unprotected version of the map you suggest, or give any IMPUT, much less advice, on my map. Please try to be more considerate from now on, realing that not everyone is as skilled as everyone else but they are still proud of what they make.

well the map doesnt matter that much. The point is that it should be playable, and unfortunatelty the version you made gives far too big advantages to certain races (read terran). I originally though you could just use hunt because it gives quite safe good games, but then i realized it was twilight, and the huntress is a good twilight ~copy of hunt.

i did not mean to offend you, and a i actually thought the bwm version was unlocked.

I still think you should use my method though, since it will spare you time and generally get funnier games.

It sort of looks like brown has the upper advantage since he is so compact to the other 2 bases so he could snipe men down from there.
