First off: Would the be considered 'warez'?

If not: How might I go about redirecting my starcraft to run from that?

You talking about getting a cd crack so you don't need the cd to run? Well it could be considered illegal so... I shall shut up about it.

No, I mean where I just redirect where it loads from, from the D: drive to a location on my harddrive. No cracks involved.

I've tried it before and it didn't work.
What I did was I copied all the files from the CD to a folder in my C:/ drive. I then removed the CD and tried running it from C:/BROODWAR, but it still asked me for the CD.
Since I'm not a genius at this kind of stuff, I knew there aws little chance of it actually working. What I never thought of was modifying one of the files to make it work with the C:/ version of the CD instead of the actual CD.

But I don't know, thats just what I would've done if I actually knew something about this kind of stuff.

Yeah, I tried that. Maybe if I toyed around with it in the regristry editor...

There was a thread on this long ago, all you need to do is make a cd image of the starcraft disk and use it.

I suggest combining CloneCD from Slysoft and the VirtualCloneDrive from the same company. Some people use Daemon disc and UltraISO, but the former is easier to use.

Creating a CD image should work.

I personally vouch for daemon tools...
Excellent program and I run my starcraft from my harddrive because the cd is scratched to hell.

http://www.daemon-tools.cc/

You'll need to rip the cd first to put it into a cd image on your harddrive...
I usually do .bin/.cue or .iso... using ultraiso.

Free trial should hopefully let you burn starcraft.

It's not warez if you have the cd. You do not need a crack with this method. You run the cd from your harddrive from a virtual cd drive, so, it's really not different.

Is daemon-tools user friendly and easy to use?

I might just use this program and run Starcraft from my hardrive, keep the CD safe for emergencies.

I remember for the original Starcraft all I had to do was move all the files to a folder named "starcraft cd" and then it would work. I think they got better at preventing this though.

Try putting the files in your C:\ Drive and go to Start->Run->type "Regedit"->expand "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"->expand "SOFTWARE"->expand "Blizzard Entertainment"->click "Starcraft" Then change "StarCD" from D: (or whatever) to C:...
But don't fark your registry files too hard, it makes your SC not work. (I fixed like 3 people's SC from messed up Registry.)

EDIT: Or you could always try copying files to C:\ and installing from there.

What I would do is...
Google UltraISO
Download it.
Download Daemon-tools at
www.daemon-tools.cc

For the procedure...
Open up UltraISO
Put your SCBW CD into the CD Drive..
Click on Make CD/DVD image
Select the drive your SC BW CD is in
Put the output file name as something like C:\SCBWISO
Start up Daemon tools
It should be on the taskbar
Right click the icon on the taskbar and do Virtual CD/DVD-ROM \ Set number of devices\ 1
Right click the icon again and do Virtual CD/DVD-Rom \Device 0 : no media\ C:\SCBWISO (Or whatever you saved the ISO you made as)
I hope this is helpful.. if it was a bit confusing because I rushed it and it was an unorganized list, I can always make it a little more organized.

damon tools is... incredibly user friendly.
I'm not sure what other programs have to offer as extra features, but daemon tools fulfills all my needs.

To simply mount an image with daemon tools, all you have to do is click on the daemon tools tray bar manager, go to virtual cd/dvd rom, go to the drive, and click mount image.

in my opinion, if you use a cd-crack, but OWN the cd, its not illegal, but alas, the system has it a diff way. I use cd-cracks for all my games and store the cd's in the clost.

Heh... funny you mention that... yeah I have a hard time finding all of my cds to all the games I use No CD Cracks (400000)...
I swear I own them biggrin.gif

Get a cd emulator, they're not that hard to find. I tried changing my StarCD registry value but that didnt work sad.gif it caused the game to crash on startup.
