Discuss if Rolle's theorem is applicable to ƒ in the closed interval of [a,b]. In the afirmative case, calculate all values c in the open interval of (a,b), in which ƒ'(x)=0

ƒ(X) = 6x/pi - 4sin[sup]2[/sup]X , [0 , pi/6 ]

Alright, here is what I already did:

You can start by saying that Rolle's theorem is applicable to [a,b] since ƒ(X) in continium in [a,b].
Now you go and get the derivative of ƒ(X):

ƒ(X) = 6x/pi - 4sin[sup]2[/sup]X
dy/dx = 6/pi - 8sinXcosX

Now I have to find all the values in which ƒ'(x)=0.

0 = 6/pi - 8sinXcosX

This is the part which I can't solve, I keep getting a non-existant solution whereas my book tells me that the solution is ƒ'(0.249)~0

You also have to state that f(0)=0 and f(π/6)=0.

Aren't you allowed a calculator? You can zero it at f'(0.2488857)=0.

6/π - 8sinxcosx = 0
8(sinx)(cosx) = 6/π
(sinx)(cosx) = 3/(4π)

There isn't an easy algebraic solution to this, 0.289 is not represented by a multiple of π.

I really hope I don't need to learn that crap ever! I already don't understand a damned thing what we are learning on school (going on what you call high school, I think...). I don't think I'm willing to learn much more mathuntil someone can tell me when I can get use of it tongue.gif Hate such useless mathematic questions dry.gif

are colleges going to care if i take ap calculus or honors calculus

pretty much, they almost all base on math ability and literature... and then they go to their own college subject ( say football ) then you try out for football...

I have a question, is that stuff hard?

Im usually good in math but... it looks like another language that has yet to be translated to me ermm.gif

No calculus isn't hard. You just have to get your mind around it.

Thats what I thought, I had gotten to
(sinx)(cosx) = 3/(4π) but I was pretty sure that I had done something wrong since I've almost never seen 3/4pi and Trigonometric equations are my only weak spot in math.

So In a TI-83+ Silver, I would just insert the function, graph it and how do I place that zero thing?

2nd -> Trace (which is CALC), select #2 (Zero) and select a bound on either side of the obvious zero.

I thoguht you were only 14, why are you already in calculus? Or is it jsut a hobby of yours?

He's advanced like 3 years ahead. My bet is that DT_BK goes to some sort of special school or a private one.

Still haven't decied wether I want advanced math, I'll probably end up taking something different.

Dude... College doesn't base on math ability and literature.. They base on the ACT, which is a generalisation of EVERYTHING that deals with school.

Whatever shiz you're smoking, give me some?

Nope, stupid public school.

Maybe I should have taken up on the letter from Andover disgust.gif

I don't think that stuff is very hard once you know what each symbol means, I just don't know that yet. I know sin and that, but middle school would never teach that to students.
We're still doing basic algebra
5X - 12 = 4X
What does X equal to?
Its pathetic.

Calculator number + Silver? That scared me for a moment.

I can't help with that problem right now, but I can't wait until I get to that stuff in school >:D
