Its easy to change colours with images.dat or just changing the HUE of the image.I dont think that a mod that changes only colours would be played.Try editing spell graphics or spell effects.

1):Go into WinMpq and go to stardat.mpq or brooddat.mpq (depending on unit you want)

2):Extact file(s) to desktop or somewhere else

3):Open up RETRO GRP

4):Press Ok

5):Load External File (File From Step 1/2)

6):Click Write Out Bmps

7):Click one of the buttons depending on what you want

8):Put The Bmps into a folder (Most people dont want that much mess)

9):Open up your Bmp folder

10):Right click "edit" the first Bmp ect. for the rest

There are few palettes in sc for spells and effects-green-for acid spray, glave wurm "explosion",infested terran explosion
the other palette is the red one-for terran explosions and engine fire
the third palette is the protoss blue one
not all units use those palettes-if you open a grp and see a strange coloured images-like fire, explosions nuke explosion etc ,then the graphic uses those special palettes

there are some others that i havent used before,i suppose there is even a "emp shock" animation

you could make fire green, nuke strike blue etc by changing the special palette at images.dat

if you want to edit the animations that dont use those palettes you could extract the frames and just change HUE of the image(im not sure if u need to import the unit palette after you change HUE)
